Hello all,

I recently bought an N3DS with Reinand installed and upgraded to 9.5, bunch of CIAs on it already. Unfortunately the previous owner didn't apply TubeHax DNS and now I have the friendly "Update" message coming every 24 hrs. AS THIS N3DS goes to the hands of a 6-year old I need to remove the chance for a big Ooops and end with a beautiful gray brick. (also.. and a big thing... I don't have the sysnand backup of this unit.. so I have to spend some time with it anyway).

Here is the question: Is there a way to safely remove all previous mods from this unit so I can restart the installation of a different CFW? (I'll go with rxTools with Menuhax autoboot).

I would like to get the N3DS to factory settings under it's current FW (9.0.2)

Thank you for reading and happy new year all :-)

I'm not sure if you have to format your 3DS. What are you using right now to launch Reinand? If you are using Themehax or Ironhax, formatting will result in the loss of these entry points, and you won't be able to launch any CFW. If you have Cubic Ninja or OOT3D, you should be able to format, but I don't know if you do have either of these games. As for the update nag, follow this guide https://gbatemp.net/threads/guide-delete-predownloaded-update-spotpass-nag.381489/ I personally do not know if it works, but a lot of people say that it stopped the update nag. Again, I do not know if this is 100%, I am just going off what was said in the thread. Also, if you want to keep your Reinand emunand, I'm not sure about that. The Reinand tutorial on this forums says that the emunand from RxTools works with Reinand, so I would think that your emunand would work with RxTools. If you need any help or this doesn't make sense, let me know.

Hi there,

Thank you for your reply. I'm currently using Themehax to boot into reinand. I don't think I can use the guide you suggest as the update I have is inside the emunand (thus you cannot boot in "safe/boot" mode).

I think I don't really need to format the N3DS sysnand per-say as the update is not yet in the sysnand (and tubhax DNS has been now set in this unit).

Maybe I can get by with just formating the SD card (squee666 suggests), and start the process of new emunand unlinked? (and put the damn tubhax DNS along the way).

The big PITA is that the previous owner left a nice bunch of CIAs installed and I'm afraid I may need to obtain/install most of these again...

the update nag killer mentioned DOES work on N3ds. I've done it and it worked for me. I then blocked the update DNS records with openDNS and have not had an update nag since.

OP,

If you are giving this to a 6 year old make sure you aren't pirating anything and be sure to instill solid wholesome values into the kid not to steal :D

a) it's not that the procedure won't work on an N3DS, is vs the emunand where it won't do...

As for the moral advice... You're funny :-)
