I have a o3ds on 4.1u with a gateway (emunand 9.4)

I haven't used my 3ds in a couple of months before today, and I was just wondering if there is any benefit to using cfw. I would like to boot directly into emunand if possible, what can I gain if I install rxtools or other cfw?

More constant updates and correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think gateway supports gba. Also you can update sysnand to 9.2

Only benefit if you already have a GW is the ability to play injected GBA cias, and to autoboot, but autoboot requires 9.0/2 (or 9.1 if you live in Japan xD)
Not only this, you also have a lot of benefits regarding retail cartridges when using a CFW and not GW.
For example, you can use SDF to extract your saves from your cartridges. And you can't do that on GW since SDF needs sigpatches in GW mode and your cartridge needs Classic mode...

Yea about that, I have a legit Pokemon y that I have played on classic mode only would I be able to keep that save with cfw?

I personally am on 9.2 and I autoboot to ninjhax, since using ninjhax to boot to rxtools has a ~100% success rate, compared to booting directly which is more like 60 for me

Ah, well that might be a problem.
I played Pokemon X on a 7.X sysNAND before getting a GW, then downgraded my sysNAND to get MSET and my Pokemon save stopped working.
Then I switched to rxTools on a 9.2 sysNAND and it started working again.

But then, you are going from the old encryption to the new one so maybe it will work. But maybe it also means that if it works, you won't be able to go back. I don't know.

True but he could just dump the game as a .3ds file and the sav file to then use SDF while in gateway mode to transfer the game saves.

I have 100% boot rate to RxTools with CTRbootmanager and proper offsets, and you can set it for other options including Hans shortcuts, and other .3dsx files.

I tried I couldn't get a good boot rate. Either way I like being able to launch other homebrew rather than going straight to cfw if I want to.

Just set the boot keys for your hb launcher, and check your offset and boot delay settings in the boot.cfg. I use it for cold boot EmuNAND and shortcut keys for hb launcher and Decrypt9 on boot. I also use hblauncher.cia in EmuNAND for homebrew stuff.

I don't think I got it.
The sav you're talking about, how does he get it ? With the option in the GW menu ? But then it is not compatible with SDF as far as I can tell.
Or did you mean that he could have played Pokemon on a dumped .3ds file all this time, which would allow using SDF on it now ? Well ok but that doesn't solve the current problem since he already played Pokemon.
Or did you mean something else ?

Sorry, i mean using this method.

pokemon is a card 2 type save file saved into the rom itself so hopefully he would just load the rom in gateway mode and use savedatafiler to just get the save file from the rom directly. That is what i am thinking. Correct me if i am wrong though.

Well that's interesting. I might try to do that on a friend's Pokemon game (we both own a cartridge, he has a savegame, he uses GW on 4.X, I don't care about my save and I use rxTools on 9.2, perfect scenario ^^).

Technically the safest way is to update via a gamecard but the only NA gamecard with 9.2 on it is very specific rare variations of Smash Bros, so it's a bit difficult. Preffered way is via sysupdater

So I imagine I would have to first install rxtools to use sysupdater, right?

At least it's better than Palentine CFW.... "blue screen of 15% boot rate" anyone?
Hah.... the good old days when all we had was Gateway and the clones and CFW was at its infancy.
To think, this all happened in a year. 2015 is a miraculous year indeed.

Well, back to the topic.
The known methods at this time are using the carts with updates, and sysupdater with the files from that-one-website in rxtools.
