Hey there guys, I apologize for asking this, but I could not find a definite answer even after searching (maybe I just suck at Google! :P).

Anyway, I am currently on the 10.1 firmware running on a New 3DS XL, and my main homebrew method is HomemenuHax, however I also have NinjHax and IronHax installed.

I would like to update, as the Phoenix Wright Trilogy is on sale until December 31st, and because of the upcoming Smash Bros. DLC.

So I have a two questions:

1. Other than the loss of HomemenuHax (really convenient), what are the downsides of updating from 10.1 to 10.3?

2. If I stay on 10.1, is there any possibility of accessing eShop in a future HANS update?

Again, sorry for asking these questions, especially if the answers have already been posted here somewhere. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you. :)

I Googled but couldn't find specific information namely the main disadvantages of updating, but otherwise thanks for the info.

I've heard there's an unreleased exploit patched in 10.2 but it's just a rumor.

I can't update to 10.2, so I'll probably update to 10.3. Thank you though.

I know that eshop works on 10.2

That's not because of any exploit, though - smea's original spoof works because the NVer of 10.2's firmware is 28, which is what their servers check for at the moment. 10.1 and lower has an NVer that is less than 28.

There was a guy who said he was working on a new eShop spoof, but has been working on school (as that's more important). We haven't seen any proof of the concept yet (at least, not me personally as it isn't in the thread.) While I don't advocate updating, as long as you have Ninjahax, you're good, as that has yet to be patched in any way. With that you can update ironhax safely. All you're losing is menuhax really and furthering yourself from possibly kernel/cia installation/whatever. But if you don't care about that, you're good.

If you ask me, you should hard-mod and dump your nand in case of future exploits, then upgrade all the way and make your purchase. If a Kernel exploit is ever released that works on 10.1 later on down the road, you'll be able to flash 10.1 back, generate your nand.fat16.xorpad for it, use that to decrypt your 10.3 dump and extract your ticket.db and title.db, and inject those back into your 10.1 nand using decrypt9wip. Hardmod is where it's at! And of course with a kernel exploit, you'll be able to install the latest Nver and use E-shop via HANS.

Are you idiot
There is a exploit that work on 10.2 and below so 10.1 gonna work

Shouldn't any exploit that is not yet public work on the latest FW? I mean chances are Nintendo didn't manage to patch whatever hole was found, I mean 10.3 pretty much got rid of Menuhax? so unless this new exploit uses the same method as Menuhax I can't see a reason 10.3 wouldn't work.

Either way I gave up caring, I've been reading for months now that we might get a new exploit but hasn't it been like a year since 9.2 kernel was found? That is too long in my book, though at the end of the day if one hits and it doesn't work on 10.3 well my lose, I wanted access to the eShop for the odd sales and keeping my games up to date like Tri-Force Heroes since I'm currently playing it.
