If you don't want your private family photos and wifi passwords to be sold to advertizing agencies shared with others (looking at you, windows 10), then you should take your time to read the license agreement :P

They're definitely important

I never properly read the whole thing but I skim through it, sometimes a lot of stuff goes down that most users are unaware of (e.g. what information they're tracking, your rights, etc.)

Depending upon where you are in the world then ones presented after the point of sale (or download as the case may be) are invalid so it is possible some would skip them. Likewise I could agree to things and get some stuff thrown out in court later (it is a rather one sided contract negotiation and that means piss taking is abundant).
Licenses themselves I do take seriously for some clients that might otherwise be brushing up against them. Microsoft licenses being among the crazier ones you encounter in the wild, and you can break many versions of Microsoft software licenses quite easily in some enterprise scenarios. I am just thankful I do not have any Oracle in my life. License concerns is actually a full time job done by skilled people in some companies.

If you do want to take them seriously though then most such things are either standard (if you know the GPL then...) or minor variations on less well known but still standard documents. You then use a compare document tool to highlight the differences over a standard form of the software agreement that you might have already read and thus save yourself a whole bunch of time. Though I find such things amusing to do/contemplate from time to time I am probably supposed to say that if you are not a contract lawyer and similarly versed in software development and law for your country (no such thing as a software patent around here for example, very much a thing in the US) that you probably should not write your own software terms and conditions of usage or alter an existing one beyond filling in the forms (rather than we the company you can have [your company industrial enterprises and associates] or subsequent owners), at least if you want to go to court with it and stand a chance of it holding up.

I just hate when theirs other installations in the package.

No I don't want your yahoo toolbar!
Some installers (lookin at you softonic!) Have crazy TaC's to make money. They have things like "to install the included software you must uncheck the install boxes" because they know people will unchecked the boxes. That's why you still end up with the redirect virus's even when you unchecked the boxes. Pirate properly kids.
