Yes, downgrading mset to 6.x is safe for the 2DS. That's why there's all those warnings on the big rxTools tutorial thread.

Just want to let you know a trick. You can still play 3ds games by using this hotkey:
A+B+X+Y+Rshoulder while turning the system on.
It will boot the cart if it's inserted.
If you have a sky3ds, you're pretty much set.

(and no, ninjhax doesn't work. it loads but crashes shortly after)

This happens when you install a o3ds nand on 2ds, am I right? I'm surprised it actually boots.

Do you know if you can boot NTR ? If so, you may be able to fix it, i dont have a 2DS and as such cant test, but i'm curious
