So, you got banned by playing the CIA version online? I didn't know that was possible. Did you happen to cheat or anything? Giving yourself better gear or maxing out stats, ect...?

yeah i have searched online and there have been many discussions on this literally no one is reporting bans using cias unless something dodgy was going on

Well, using
  • a patched version
  • of an out-of-region game
seems dodgy enough for me.

well a language pack isnt really affecting the game.

Out of region game is the same, if that was the issue the amount of people being banned for using other region 3ds/z and cias would be way higher, could be they tried obtaining dlc

Interesting, any reports from "Vanilla" cia users? I hope my retail copy will arrive soon, want to go online since I'm nearly done with the village but no intention of getting banned.

E: Nvm, saw your other thread. Ugh

The only basis I can see CIA users being banned is that the region of the 3DS doesnt match the console header.
However Traiver said a Chinese player was banned on a JPN 3DS so that kills my thought.

If you check this thread (https://gbatemp.net/threads/question-poll-i-heard-of-many-bans-in-mhx-recently-002-0102.404528/), you can clearly see that the console is taiwanese. So if he used a japanese version of the game (I asumme the TW version is not out yet anyway), he in fact runs out of region. Provided Traiver's chinese guy is in fact who took the photo. Otherwise...

I see the following possible reasons for a cia ban (ordered by plausability):
  • cheats
  • missing license
  • out of region
  • patch

I know that cheats can corrupt your save in some cases, it's also plausible for capcom to check for them and report to nintendo.

cia's are basically eshop games, nintendo can easily check if your nnid has a license for the game.

Nintendo could also simply check if your console id is in the correct region. (which would also affect retail copies and would be a huge dick move by them, killing all imports)

The patch i think is pretty unplausible, because it is hard to detect. it only modifies text files and to detect those changes the online server would have to do hash checks against all files, which is imho too much work for them. Also they would have needed to plan this feature beforehand or implement it with a patch.

I have been online everyday, downloaded dlcs, using a US 3ds with 3ds, 3dz, and cia of the game, and I've tried using the Gateway cheats.
So far, everything works fine.
I have 8 more friends playing mhx on cfws and homebrews.
If anything happens, I'll report.
I'm using private headers but usually just play on the cia version.
I knew before hand that public headers were risky.

so far traviers post sound more like scaremongering than anything.

Yes you heard right. Some chinese guys are banned with a CIA of this game I saw this on baidu. My friend got banned today with the patched cia version, too. Other guys are got banned for using the 3dz version with a public header (I already know this is stupid)

So far this just contradicts his own claims about both being friends, also his thread only states the v1/v2 versions
The thread has 4 people voting yes about being banned but no one has actually posted about being banned at alll.
Except 1 guy who got the error code but coul play instantly afterwards,

Also the only thing that changed realy involving online in v3/v4 was the quick chat messages online which were causing issues (which could have a possible cause for ban)

Just play online you wont know if you ge ta ban until you actaully do

I'm not naive to believe anything posted online... but I'd like to see how this turns out. Just because someone heard it from the grapevine, mean it's truth.

But then no one really wants to get to the bottom of this, and find out the real deal.
