Hey there,

This is an awesome guide, but I seem to be stuck at step 3.1.7. I've copied the CBM boot.3dsx into the root directory, it appears to run successfully but then I temporarily see the 'rxTools' logo on my top screen and then it disappears almost immediately and I just have a black screen until I hard reset. Is there something I have missed that could have caused this?

EDIT: I've edited the boot.cfg to allow a timer on CBM. I choose emuNAND (rxtools) and it shows the rxTools logo for a second & then appears to reboot back into CBM. Same thing with running sysNAND.

I'm running 9.0 on n3ds.

Cheers

One more note:
Hold L while booting rxtools from [the boot manager (CBM)]. You have to time it right JUST as the rxtools splash is appearing. Choose rxmode then emunand, AND HOLD L AGAIN as you load emunand. Done.

This should help. :)

QUESTION.

step 3.1.7
you installing freemultipatcher.cia using FBI from rxmode (or what ever you want to cia install via FBI eg. games) ?
how is that possible ? because FBI only works when the signature check disabled which is when you launch the pasta.

because it was what I did.
i run the pasta CFW -> FBI -> install cia game file -> works when only on pasta (sysNand)
but when I boot into rxmode emunand, suddenly all of the games were gone.

please help

You didn't follow the guide properly I guess. You should start from where it says you should format sysNAND / Unlink sysNAND and emuNAND. :)

BTW, the release of 3CIA will be delayed by about a week, I'm kinda busy because of #ParisAttacks ...

So I've been having a bit of trouble, just wondering if anyone knows what I should do.

I can't seem to get things to load from the web browser besides the gateway launcher.

O3DS XL - Firmware: 7.2.0-10E
Browser version: 1.7498

Problems:
  • Trying to upgrade from 7.2 -> 9.2
"2. Open the internet browser on your 3DS/2DS and type http://lavanoid.no-ip.org/?open . Once the screens start to change, hold L until the rxTools menu shows up."
    - It just loads me back to the homescreen with an error message
  • Browser Hax
"1.2.5 You will see a volume bar there. Tap the very right of this volume bar. The system takes you to the homebrew launcher now."
    -
Again loads me back to the homescreen with an error message
  • Ninjhax (not apart of tutorial)
    -
After scanning the QR code it also loads me into the browser and that's it.
What I've tried:
  • Formatting my SD card
  • Trying different SD cards
  • Redownloading all the necessary files
  • Clearing cookies/history in web browser
Any help is appreciated. I am trying to get my hands on an actual gateway to see if I can do it from there.

moin, awesome guide
yesterday I bought a N3DS with 9.0 and started to look around searching for a "how to" and this guide seems pretty awesome.

the only questions I got are most likely total beginner questions, but I think thats the right spot since I followed the guide to do this.

once your steps are complete the 3DS boots into the rxTools OS and holding L while booting boots to the original OS, correct?
so I never have to change anything in the original OS and only do stuff in the rxTools side. right?

edit: and how to get back into homebrew launcher? the browserhax doesnt work anymore

edit again: ok, I edited the boot.cfg and entered another entry to HBL/boot.3dsx, and it seems to work, but is that the correct way to do it?

That's how I did at first. But you can now install HBL launcher .cia so you can get into homebrew launcher from emunand homescreen.

ah, right, then I don't have to reboot the 3ds every time. Its kinda hard to get to get to know all the different things and ways with the 3ds. it was a lot easier back with my old PSP. I'm never sure if what I read is still accurate or out of date.

Hi,

The noob tutorial of the homebrew launcher for Versions above 9.2 brought me here.

I bought a new 3ds with 9.0.0.-20E and i want to do 2 things:

- play my rom hacks of Pokemon ORAS/XY (I have the .cia Files on my PC, confirmed working on my old 3ds xl with 4.5 with Gateway)
- edit the save files of the above mentioned pokemon oras/xy .cia hacked roms with the .cia file called SaveDataFiler (exports the file called "main" to the root of the SD card which is in the 3ds itself and lets me edit this with PKHeX)

Is this possible with this guide or should i just use gateway?

I'm still a noob in this, but I can confirm the following things about your questions at least:
I bought the same N3DS 9.0.0.-20E, and the guide worked perfectly. I'm able to .cia games, but some games require region free and/or firmware spoof. (all games I've tested so far had both or neither, thats why its an and/or).
on the save file part: I cant help with that, because I have not done anything in that regard yet. BUT there is a SaveDataFiler.cia included in the package from this guide and that most likely means that it works should work.

0.1 Extract the content of the #UnlockEverything ZIP archive directly onto the root of the (micro)SD card of your 3DS. Keep a copy of "browserhax.png", "CNQR.png" and readme.html on your PC. After that, extract the content of "CubicNinja.zip" into the "CIAs" folder on your (micro)SD card.

Where is CubicNinja.zip? I downloaded the UnlockEverything zip from your Twitter link, but I don't see any CubicNinja.zip or CIA file anywhere.

Urgh... I'm having so many problems (9.0.0-20E firmware):

1. Step 0.1 says to extract CubicNinja.zip, but this file doesn't exist anywhere. I had to get a CIA for Cubic Ninja elsewhere.
2. Step 1.2.5 has you "simply" launch the homebrew launcher. I must have already tried this around 300 times with a 5% success rate. It took me so many attempts and placebo tricks (disabling my theme, tapping the very right side of the slider, mashing the A button like a madman) and it's still so finicky.
3. Step 2.1.3 says to scan the provided QR code using Cubic Ninja. Every time I did this it crashed the system. I eventually got a QR code from the ninjhax website, by entering my firmware version to generate a QR code. This one worked.
4. Step 2.1.4 says I installed the Gateway menu, but what I did above seemed to install a hack that made Cubic Ninja run the Homebrew Launcher. I instead got the Gateway menu running by visiting http://go.gateway-3ds.com in my 3DS browser.
5. Step 3.1.2 says to run rxTools. When I did this, it said installation failed, with the error native_firm 4. The guide says this doesn't matter though...
6. Step 3.1.6 says to copy the "files" from the CBM folder, but there is only one file: boot.3dsx. Is there not supposed to be a boot.cfg file?
7. Step 3.1.7 and 3.1.8 say to turn on the 3DS, boot into rxTools, and use FBI. Turning on the 3DS automatically loads rxTools, but again, it says installation failed with the error native_firm 4. I'm not sure whether I'm supposed to boot into rxTools emuNAND mode or rxTools sysNAND mode, but both options give me the same error. I can't run rxTools.

I'm stuck here now. What do I do? :(

Edit 1: I deleted the rxTools/data folder and replaced the rxTools files with the files from the latest nightly build. This time it installed successfully. But then it just loads to a black screen, which it does every time now.

Edit 2: It just won't work. I give up for now. :( I hope someone can help get rxTools working.

Edit 3: Tried Cakes CFW instead of rxTools and that gives a black screen when booting into emuNAND too...

Edit 4: FINALLY GOT IT WORKING!!!

I ended up trying a whole bunch of different rxTools versions, all the way back to version 2.6 with the old UI available here: http://rxtools.net/#!downloads I followed the instructions with this one (just like I followed the instructions included with the other rxTools releases), but this time it actually worked. I generated the firmware.bin file using the included Python script and placed it on the root of the card, next to the rxTools.dat file. It booted into emuNAND perfectly.

After this success, I backed up all my files and decided to experiment some more. I deleted the rxTools folder and put in the files from the most recent nightly build from here: https://lavanoid.github.io Again, I followed the instructions included to generate the "firm" folder containing multiple firmware files. But then I did something different: I threw in the firmware.bin file that I generated with version 2.6, and then I copied this "firm" folder all over the place: I put it in the rxTools/firms directory (with firmware.bin included), I put it in rxTools/sys/firm (with firmware.bin included), and I also put firmware.bin in the rxTools/sys folder directly, and I left firmware.bin on the root of the card with rxTools.dat. I turned on my 3DS and it booted up into emuNAND perfectly, with the latest version of rxTools running. Woohoo!! Hahahaha!

I'm sure most of this wasn't necessary, but the problem is that it's become clear to me that the rxTools instructions are WRONG. There are a whole bunch of inconsistencies, with one readme file saying to do one thing and another saying something completely different. For example, the most recent builds of rxTools still talk about generating firmware.bin and using rxTools.dat, but rxTools.dat doesn't exist anymore and the Python script doesn't generate a firmware.bin file. The documentation is just terrible and all over the place. Anyway, it works now. Thank god.

Reports like this make me want to send back that 9.0 n3ds I just got and stay away from the whole topic. Seriously, compared to wii / 360 / PSP / ps3 cfw or home brew setup this is just ridiculously complicated.

Yeah, it is ridiculously complicated. :( I've already spent at least 10 hours on this, and I haven't made any progress from before. Still stuck trying to get rxTools running. I'm really hoping someone can help.

The link from, you know, there, it points to 0.92 package - but according to thread 0.97 is current. How to acquire?
I'm not the OP so I can't say for sure, but I think the Twitter link is supposed to be up-to-date. Even though it says it's the 0.92 package in the tweet, what I've gathered from reading through this thread is that the OP has been updating it ("the cloud" as he calls it) over time with different files. So I think the files are supposed to be the latest version, and he just hasn't tweeted any more. In other words, the tweet is out-of-date but the files in the link are updated. I could be wrong though.

Edit: Well, I finally got it working. Thanks for the guide, it did help me along the way. I think it could use some improvements here and there though. I'll edit my previous post above with how I got it working.

Thanks a lot! Yes, this guide should only be used when other tutorials get you stuck on a specific step. I'm currently busy with a lot of other hacking stuff which I didn't expect to come up so I'm really sorry if I caused any inconveniences.

I will get working on the CFW Installer ASAP (which won't be as dogmatic as this guide). :)

Weird. In that case, I don't have any better advice than Search somewhere else for Cubic Ninja :/
