Also, try something advanced, like Unity.
Unity uses Java (and C#), but at least you can make even more kick-ass games on there than you would with just text-based bullshit (I'm looking at you, Programmer's Notepad and DevkitPro!!! )

Im using java so the "This was made in Fuck U nity" thing does not show up. and java is capable of the mother 4 style menus i will be making

Lol wtf no.
It's a lot more easier, and a lot more prettier, to do visual designing imo. (such as Unity and Unreal, along with some minor scripting involved, which I'm used to. )
