Hello there,

I have the possibilty to acquire a, what I understand as completely set up N3DS XL. According to the description it got sysNAND 9.0.0-20E, emuNAND 9.5, CFW with coldboot, bootmanager, MSET downgrade, MSET stuck, sysnand Backup and 64gb MicroSD.

Would I need to fetch ANYTHING else to unravel it's whole capabilities, like Gateway or sth.? Or would that leave me completely set up and future-proof (given I don't accidentally update sysNAND)

Downside, it's quite expensive. Wants approx. 100$ more than retail.

I have also the possibilty to get my hands on a 9.0.0-20U, it's cheaper but nothing is set up. Would I run into any problems with a US device in Europe or would region free patching enable me to play everything anyway?

Thanks for any help!

So is the $99 Clean one US? And is the 100$ one EU?

The guy with the EU one, that is all preset and stuff, wants 280€ for it, which is a heckload if you ask me. The US one is about 190€ which is pretty much the retail price of a 3DS XL here.

There's also a MH4 and MM bundle with 9.2 or below but these are even more expensive, over 300€ which is just bat shit crazy

Meh it's a scalped price but a fair one seeing as everything is setup and it comes with a 64gb MicroSD. Also no you don't need a flash card. Get the 9.0 unit that has nothing setup and do it yourself.

Ridiculous, if the n3ds was very hard to find the price would've been ok. Not even ps3 3.55 is expensive like this, so if you found a clean 9.0 for a cheaper price then why not?

Okay thanks, then I'll probably go with the US one. Maybe it's better to do it myself, I'm not all too untalented regarding tempering with consoles (got a JTAG 360 that I setup and maintained myself), maybe I'll learn more in the process of installing all that stuff, than getting a preset one and not really knowing what happened and what I can and can not do.

Thanks for you link, that means I'll definitely need cubic ninja though?

I wouldn't care about eshop either. As you can see I also don't have the biggest problems with English, so running in English would also not bother me that much.

$100 USD for 64gb sd card and a modded N3DS is not too bad a deal. I bought my N3DS for $193, then added a 64GB sd card for around $20. So if the seller wants $80 for modding that console for you, it's not too expensive. Of course I had to do the RxTools/cold boot for mine, which if you know how, then it would be not too bad, but if you don't know how, then it could pose a challenge. I say pay the extra $100 for what you're getting and be done with it.

I would say pay the extra as well. Through various events in my life I have learned it is better to pay extra and get something done properly than try to skimp and maybe fail. E.g. I broke a key in a padlock once and I tried to buy a $50 pair of luck cutters to avoid paying a locksmith, and of course they didn't work and had to call the locksmith anyway. Or buying a cheap 2nd hand lawnmower and having it break down partway through the job and having to pay a guy to mow my lawn anyway. Or trying to fix the hinge on my scooter seat myself, making it worse and then having to pay a guy to remove the hinge when he would have just been able to fix it if I'd paid him first. Etc...... Just pay extra for all the work done, and then you can't stuff it up, plus you have saved yourself many hours of stress.

80$ for free softmodding? That makes no sense, I would understand if you have to do a hard job like downgrading a ps3.
I know tutorials are difficult for newbies, if you follow carefully nothing wrong gonna happen. Its op's decision, imo the clean 9.0 us version isnt bad

But to change region in emunand I would still need cubic ninja right? Says so in the tut so that's another 40€ or so on top, even if I could sell it again after the action it's still a hassle

Free is all relative. You still have to invest some time to learn what it takes to do what needs to be done. Many people don't mind spending the time to read and ask question about the modding process, but there's no comprehensive guide that shows you all the odds and ends and pitfalls that you can potentially fall when you don't know what you're doing. And then there are others who wouldn't mind paying a little extra to get all of that done without all the hassle. In my opinion, this is no different from hiring a handyman to fix the plumbing in your house. You can do it yourself, but they've got the tools and the experience to do it faster. So the choice is yours; it makes perfect sense. It's the economy of things.

Last time I looked (several months ago) you actually need two copies, one from the region you're in and one from the region you want to change to. This may have changed though (or maybe different for emuNAND, I had looked at changing sysNAND)
