Tyrone Rodrigues, founder of Nicalis, made some few interesting statements on his Twitter:

"Stop lying to yourself, the Wii U is not much more powerful than a PS Vita"

he also said:

"In other news, evaluating Afterbirth for Wii U, new 3DS and PS Vita. Not running at a performance level I’m happy with"

Nicalis recently been trying to port Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth to other platforms, which explains these statements. What's your opinion on this matter? Agree? Disagree?

In terms of raw computing power, emulation via homebrew will probably be the ultimate decider of this, in the end. The Wii U homebrew scene is still really barren and young, though.

Well the Vita is running a Quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 MPCore that can be clocked in at 333MHz by default and ranges 41-444MHz with 512 MB RAM, 128 MB VRAM compared to the Wii U's 1.24 GHz Tri-Core IBM PowerPC with 2 GB DDR3.
But the Vita's hardware is more comparable to a Smartphone vs the Wii U's which is more comparable to a PC. So honestly I don't know how to compare these two. The numbers make it appear the as though the Vita is more powerful, but would the smartphone style CPU be comparable to a PC style CPU?

More like 400MHz.

And idk about others but requiring at least 2x804 MHz ARMv6 or 2(3?)x400MHz A9 to run a 2D dungeon crawler/shooter is a bit too much it seems. And not even at a stable framerate.

To be fair, my laptop doesn't run this game too well either :P
(i5 2410m, with glorious Intel HD3000, turbo boosting to 2.7GHz)

Yeah, it's no secret that Nicalis is having trouble optimizing the game for non-x86 systems, but I'm wondering how well they're attempting to take advantage of each system's architecture rather than trying to force the game to fit into it. To say that the Wii U isn't much more capable than the Vita makes it sound like they're struggling to grasp either system, and given the bugs and occasional stuttering on the former, it's a pretty safe bet.

I actually took that from wikipedia, which I guess is giving the most extreme clock speed of the vita.

Edited my post to make it clearer

I agree with you on this, the game seems oversimplistic to have problems running full-speed on Vita or WiiU.
This looks like a game even DS should be able to run at a stable framerate.

Yet, I believe he's right when he says WiiU is not much more powerful than Vita.

And Wikipedia (or rather, whoever wrote it) probably just took it from ARM's datasheet. Sony never disclosed the clockspeed.
People once thought the 3DS is 1GHz.
Ah, well I shall correct my post.

That... doesn't sound right. The original Binding of Isaac, sure, because it was a flash monstrosity (and such a large one that it basically got to a point where the Flash compiler couldn't even handle it, I believe). But I've always had a solid 60FPS with my Intel HD machines, including an i3-2370m HD3000 machine; I don't think the game even slows down on my Atom-based Windows tablet.

while i really love afterbirth and most other nicalis games i think this might be a case of he's just not a very good programmer for some reason that game barely runs on my brothers AMD FX-6300 Vishera 6-Core 3.5GHz desktop computer yet somehow runs smooth as butter on my five year old i3 laptop with HD graphics 3000.

I guess afterbirth isnt coming to vita then :/

He also said that PSVita is the best platform to play it in his opinion.
Vita may not be very powerful, yet I guess there's more chance of it coming to Vita than WiiU
