I was just playing Triforce Heroes online when it just froze out of nowhere and I had to shut down my 3DS. At first I thought it was nothing.

But when I restarted and tried to load my EmuNand, an error message occured and my 3DS rebooted. I tried it a second time - same result. I tried it through the Gateway internet site and through the DS exploit - the same. Damn! What if my EmuNand had killed itself!?

I thought about when I did a backup of my Nand and my saves the last time - and I froze in place out of shock.

So if you read this, backup your saves along with your NAND!

(By the way: I could fix the error with putting my SD card out and in the 3DS again - but that is a lesson I'll never forget)

Just thought I should share this with all of you. Maybe it reminded someone.

This is good advice, as a matter of routine i back up my main microSD card at least twice a week with Win32DiskImager

It works great

Funnily enough I was just thinking about this. I only use cia files with gateway emunand - to make a copy of my sd card is there a way to do it all in one step or do I have to extract the emunand separately?

Apreciate any advice!

Download Win32DiskImager (it is free), you can make a complete backup image to your hard drive (includes emunand partition), simple and free

Things i backup every week on sunday evening/night
- Emunand
- Image from SD with Win32DiksImager

I even make an SD backup of my MicroSD of the N3DS on 10.3, because Old IronFall is on it, so when the sd gets corrupted or whatever i can restore with an exploitable IronFall version

I accidentally destroyed my emunand last night and found my last backup was made in April. It turns out that all cia's I installed after April become unusable. It's a pain to reinstall all those things again. I really should backup my emunand more often.

I back-up my SD card files and take an emuNAND dump at least once a month and just before i start tinkering with something. Got me out of trouble soo many times. It's worth every second of effort.

*sigh* starts to remember the traumatic experience she had earlier this year, when she lost hours of gameplay & all her saves of games she was about to backup for the 1st time Q.Q.

This all happened after going accidently into Datamanagement on sysnand ( even the best datarecovery programs couldn't save the savegames she wanted the most). Ah the horror *shivers*. Really it was the worst experience I ever had related to my 3DS gaming life! I'm so glad you were lucky in the end!:)

People we can't be careful enough!I already kind of have a OCD when it comes to my digital data now. I have always had a bad luck of loosing even my some of backups, this was before the cloud era though xD. So I'd like recommend to make a copy of your backup too & put it on a dvd/blue ray or something that's accesible offline & not as easy to damage ( looks @ her pile of dead hdd's/sd's) too if possible, since cloud services can have a downside too!

This only happens when your NANDs are linked.
Can anyone tell me if there's any advantage to having linked NANDs over unlinked?

How do you use Win32DiskImager to make a back up of my sd card ?,it wants me to choose an image file ?
Check if the drive letter is your SD, choose an image file (even if you don't have one) select the folder you want to save the image in and type in a name.
Once done choose read (this does read from)

I back up my saves every time I update my emunand. I also back up my old emunand. If it's been a long time since updating emunand, and there's not a new one to update to, I sometimes back up my saves again.
