As the title says do you still have/use a microwave?

I have been without a microwave for about a decade, give or take a year when one took up space on top of a fridge in a house I was renting. Various parents, friends and relatives have gone longer. About the only thing I can see it being truly useful for is heating up baked potatoes so you can cook them in less than a few hours, though I do not mind the few hours thing for baked potatoes.

Hells yes, for defrosting purposes mainly.
And these microwave pasties we get here in the au. But mainly defrosting quickly, I never know what I wanna eat till I'm starving and 20mins away from cooking.

Still? Are they considered old hat now? What replaced them?
I do not think they were replaced as much as considered somewhat obsolete/unnecessary by a fair few people.

That said I am wondering what will happen in the US side of this -- I see a lot of people use them to heat things up where I have a milk pan for some fluids and kettles around here can happily chew down some 10 amps at 240V which does rather help things there when 15A at 120V takes somewhat longer to do well for a kettle.

I have one, but it's very rarely used, mostly just for soup and ready meals and stuff when I'm too lazy to do any real food. I'm pretty much nocturnal and it makes a lot of noise, I don't want to annoy my neighbours, so I just buy gammon steaks and throw them on my George Foreman grill instead.

Gambia, The
Im a student and I recently created a living community with two good friends of mine.
We have two microwaves for three people, even had the chance to get a third one xD
I use it almost everyday, mostly for making myself a good baked bread or cacao.

You don't have kids do you Fast.. Microwaves are a godsend! And to be frank, yeah maybe 10 years ago the average 99p Asda microwave pack tasted about as nice as a mcdonalds, but some meals now are pretty fabulous - the Tesco Finest stuff for example can be either microwaved or cooked, and after trying both there's no difference

...So yeah I've got one! :D

I think that FAST6191 is a wealthy person. Rich people don't need microwaves because they can afford fresh ingredients and actually make food. Microwaves are for us poor folk who can only afford processed foods and spend all of our time being stressed over everything.

What, not at all. Anyone could have one, because it's useful.

In my end, I do have fresh ingredients, but leftovers are the reason why I have a microwave lol.

I hate the kind of person that looks down on others and/or thinks they're better than others because they don't own something that those people do. It's the same as someone bragging that they don't own a TV. Um... good for you? I personally get great use out of my microwave. If I had an extra hour or two every day to bake every one of my meals, I would, but that's simply not realistic, as such, hell yeah, I own a microwave. There shouldn't be any shame in owning one either.

duffmmann projecting hard. I tend not to look down upon anybody -- tools are tools but much like I might ponder why someone still uses an arc welder I felt the need to ask the question in the title. It had been my experience that microwave ownership and usage was on the way out and thus we have this thread.

To answer GameSystem's question (?) I am very much not a wealthy person, though I do have a lot of free time and no kids that I am responsible for or otherwise aware of. Similarly I have priced things for the US and in many places (particularly inland and where little else but corn grows) it would be harder to do all fresh, all the time there. In the UK it is far cheaper to cook. Though I would contend that microwave food has improved and now tasted liked cooked arse rather than twice cooked arse.

On leftovers what is wrong with good old bubble and squeak?

Have a little video series covering things that might be relevant

Microwaves are far too useful to not have.
I'd never eat a proper breakfast without one. I don't have much time in the morning.

and just in general it's a time saver when most oven instructions are "cook for like 13 hours, hope you're not hungry" and then microwave is "Yeah 30 seconds should get it nice and steaming"
I wonder which I prefer.
