I'm on an old 3ds at 9.2 trying desperately to get browserhax to work, but it always goes yellow->gray->error has ocurred.

Is there any other way to install themehax? What could I be doing wrong here?

edit: Nevermind, got it to work. Just keep trying if you run into this.

Can someone please explain to me the advantages/disadvantages of an O3DS (XL) versus a N3DS (XL), with regards to hacking, exploits, homebrew, emulators, emunand etc.? In particular regarding what versions of sysnand and emunand are supported, and what kind of things can you do on one system that you can't on the other. I'm particularly interested in what can be done just with exploits, rather than using a Gateway or Sky3DS.

The background is that I have an O3DS XL on firmware 7.something. I have done a hardware NAND mod on it so have backups of may NANDs going back to 4.5 or even earlier. Other than the NAND mod, I haven't hacked it at all or got a flash cart. I'm wondering whether it is worth replacing it with a N3DS XL instead, to gain the advantages of the C-stick, extra shoulder buttons, faster CPU etc.

For both the O3DS and N3DS, sysNAND must be on 9.2 or lower for the console to be exploitable. emuNAND for the O3DS can go up to the latest version; emuNAND on the N3DS can go up to 9.5.0-23. Some games will not work by default on the N3DS due to this limitation; however, cryptofixed versions of these games exist and those versions are playable on the the N3DS. They both have the same options when it comes to homebrew, I'm not sure if any homebrew has utilized the extra cores in the N3DS's processor. CFW is achievable on both the O3DS and N3DS without Gateway or Sky3ds.

There are a few N3DS exclusive games that the O3DS will never get. Not a lot of games utilize the better processor in the N3DS, but it does make a noticeable difference on the games where it does. I believe everything the C-Stick does can be done on the O3DS by using a Circle Pad Pro. The N3DS does have better 3D, but I never use 3D personally.

I like the N3DS better personally, but the the O3DS is definitely easier to use for CFW/homebrew purposes. You may have a tough time tracking down an exploitable N3DS now though. In the wild they are quite rare at this point. Instead of searching for one, you can buy one from a scalper online for an increased price, but at least you'll know it's guaranteed to be exploitable. There is a thread here with a list of serial numbers and which firmware versions apply to those serials if you're interested in tracking one down.

Hello
I've got a o3ds running 4.5 firmware but am having problems installing ninjhax. After I scan the qr code i get an error and it goes back to the home menu. I've tried this a dozen times and it never works.
I've seen that ninjhax 2 works on the latest firmware. If I was to update to the latest firmware would I be able to 1st get ninjhax 2 onto the 3ds and then install rxtools onto it?

If you update to the latest firmware your 3DS will no longer be exploitable. A better option is to get rxTools set up then either install a cia of Cubic Ninja on emuNAND for Ninjhax 2, or after setting up rxTools update sysNAND to 9.2.0-20 via rxTools devmode and SysUpdater.

Thanks for replying. I'm following this guide to install rxtools from firmware 4.5 http://gbatemp.net/threads/tutorial-installing-rxtools-custom-firmware-3ds-and-2ds.390867/ and I'm on step 1 using the cubic ninja method of installing pasta cfw before installing rxtools. So i've not gotten very far. Months ago I did have palantine cfw on this 3ds but found it too buggy.

I might just try doing the tutorial using the web browser instead of Cubic Ninja. If you have a DS flashcart you could use the MSET method too.

Whenever I try to run the eShop app from the homebrew menu I'm just greeted with a black screen that runs indefinitely.

Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks BobDoleOwndU.

Regarding the N3DS emunand 9.5 maximum, although cryptofixed games are about, do you think there will come a point when newer games just won't be able to be run on N3DS, but will on O3DS? I wouldn't want to replace my O3DS with a N3DS and find I've hit a deadend.

Reading around it seems the Retroarch emulator might run better on N3DS, so that's one advantage.

I don't use 3D so I'm not bothered by the better 3D on the N3DS. The extra C-stick might be useful for, e.g., Majora's Mask, and I'd rather not use a Circle Pad Pro.

I know someone selling a N3DS XL which he uses with Sky3DS. Does that mean it must be 9.2 or below?

My biggest question:

Where do I begin? I tried reading all the threads and I got lost.
ok then i got some basic questions
1. old 3ds or n3ds ?
2. firmware version?
3. do you currently have any 3ds flashcard? or cfw setup?
4. do you currently have homebrew channel installed?
5. this one may sound silly but what is your goal? (what do you want out of your system?)

First off, "cryptofix" is a thing that only applies to eshop versions of games/demos. Eshop games and demos are encrypted and require a key generated from a seed that was updated with 9.6. This is why they need to be "cryptofixed", which is basically removing said encryption. Roms (.3ds/.3dz files) and .cia files made from those roms do not have this encryption and thus will work on a N3DS with either GW or any CFW that utilizes firmlaunch, regardless of the EmuNAND version.

As for the N3DS that was used with Sky3DS, it is most likely on 9.3 or higher since that is the primary reason to use Sky3DS.

It is worth noting that the majority of future games will NOT work with Sky3DS due to the implementation of a new physical Anti-Piracy check that Sky3DS is unable to mimic with the current cart. (GW bypasses this, but requires 9.2 or lower.)

Are you using the Tubehax DNS? Current theory is that the DNS blocking access to the update servers inadvertently blocks the eshop as well now.

this check can now be bypassed with hans (a homebrew app)

I am not, but I am blocking the nintendo update servers for my Wii U from my router, should I unblock them?

More problems yay!!

Downloaded no ban no sky and HXD.

backed up steel diver on powersaves and pulled the private header from it. copy/pasted it into the empty header bin file and then used no ban no sky and patched the newest sky3ds template. proceeded to open up diskwriter and reload the template that was patched. played a lil of zelda:link between worlds.

then made a backup save of zelda, opened up the save file in HXD and checked for the private header and it WASNT THERE!

What the heck did i do wrong??

edit: also forgot to mention that i chose no roms when using no ban no sky as i wanted every game in the template patched.

sorry guys....but anyone??

Okay, and I currently have the oldapp payload on my SD card, should it be robpin?
it depends on your homeberw entry point. i believe you can reinstall hbc from scratch
So HANS + Sky3DS can play games with the new AP check? Good to know, thanks.
here is the info on this HANS Bypasses The New AP Check For Sky3DS Users
edit: sorry the threads op was suspended and i believe the info to be wrong
im sorry before i went to sleep it was looking like a good prospect
