Is the card and where I bought from. I opened the packaging and inserted the card into a N3DS XL, and there was no game icon and I could not boot the card. I then tested on an O3DS, and then an NDS and there was no game icon on any. However, the NDS would run the blank icon game, but would run into an white screen that never ended. Indicating to me it was already bricked on arrival. Did not have a chance myself to do anything that could potentially brick the card such as updating as it never booted even once. Did they not test it, or am I doing something wrong?

I don't have another flashcart to try to do the unbricking cart swap I've seen as well..

EDIT: Updating this thread for anyone that runs into the same issue: I bought another R4I 3DS card from the GBATemp sponsored website, it worked as it should out of the box. I paid for it with paypal(a huge plus to get around these shady websites), however it took a while longer to ship then I would have hoped.

The one I bought from http://www.modchipsdirect.com/r4i-3ds-r4ds-wood.html was clearly bricked on arrival, but had fast shipping time.
I used the R4 unbricking trick you can find on google and fixed the one I had received from modchipsdirect. (I had to use an old fat DS to do this)
Overall, I wouldn't recommend modchipsdirect as they sent me a bricked R4, and it wasn't worth the effort of sending it back for the price point you get these at, imo. Luckily, since I fixed it myself with my working one I can now give it away.

Also, these T-Flash things that come with them are absolute garbage. Don't rely on them if you don't have an SD card reader.

Do you have a micro sd card inside of the flash cart and if so, do you have the proper files needed from the r4igold3ds website to run the flash cart?

I downloaded every set of files I could find in attempts to test, but I can't even get the cart to boot as it's always a blank icon even if I have a microSD inserted or not. My googling/some youtube videos showed that the card should at least boot regardless even if you don't have an SD inserted and it will just say "NO CARD" inserted.

Go to this website.
http://r4ids.cn/r4i-download-e.htm
From there scroll down until you see Newest WOOD R4 Kernel "WOOD R4 V 1.64 Released. (2013-11-08)" and click the blue download button.
It will then take you to filetrip where you download the file and extract the contents of it to the root of your micro sd card. That should fix it hopefully.

I've done that. I cannot get the R4 to do anything what so ever. It will not show up in the 3DS at all, nor an NDS. From opening to trying to use it I have never gotten into the R4 menu even once.

What type of microsd card are you using and is it formatted to FAT32? nds flash cards can not read exfat formatted micro sd cards. Also ds flash carts has contact issues when putting it inside of a 3ds system.

16 gigs, Micro SDHC. Formatted many times now to FAT32 with attempting to make sure it works. The card I got (it's linked in the top post) is supposed to work with all DS versions, and systems according to all the search I did prior to buying it. However, it doesn't work on even a fat old DS that I have been testing with to make sure it wasnt an issue on the 3DS's I have.

I made sure by googling that even if I was doing something wrong with the SD card, I would still be able to boot the R4 but I would simply get an error. My problem is I have never even gotten it to show up as a game in any of my systems I have tried.

Is is possible for you to post some pictures? I bought 2 of those same cards from the same website and no issues on my end. Also you said you put the card in the n3dsxl after taking it out of the packaging. Was that before or after you setup the microsd card and what files did you try first when setting up the microsd card?

No game icon/game to boot on old NDS
cd5d1e608d.jpg

No game at all on 3DS.
Same thing on New 3DS XL.

I've never had a game icon or anything to appear at all what so ever. This is how it was exactly out of the box.

Has Micro SD inside with wood kernel from website in it, that's all.

unrelated note, that the T-Flash/Ez flash SD adapter that came with it doesn't work either. Could be a windows issue though and it not installing a driver. I don't want to use it anyway, it isn't required to use and I have my own SD card reader.

I did not do anything at all but put the Wood files on my SD card as the same thing above would show. I have not gotten the R4 to boot what so ever for me to even attempt to update it myself, and potentially bricking it by messing up an update. I have not once seen the R4 UI, nor a game icon on my DS's. My results of it not working hasn't changed with an SD card inserted, nor not inserted.

From what you are saying and assuming that this was bought recently, it sounds like you got a bad r4 card because even without a microsd card inside, a icon SHOULD still appear. I'm sorry that you are having this issue right out of the packaging. You should be able to get a replacement r4igold3ds. This is from the modchipsdirect website from the FAQ section. I apologize that i was not of any help to you.

What is the warranty period for the items you sell, and what is the process if an item is faulty?

This information is on the product page. Most devices have a period of 6 months. If an item is DOA or faulty within the warranty period the user is responsible to return shipping to us. We will pay for shipping back if the item is faulty, if the item is not faulty you will be contacted for funds for the repostage of your item. Please note that if an item is defective we will repair/replace the item. Because of the nature of the product, and the fact that we do not have a physical store and we don't sell second hand stuff we cannot under any circumstances refund you for your purchase. If you do not agree with this please DO NOT BUY from us. I am sure you don't want to receive a 2nd hand product, and we must do this to ensure this!

We cannot replace items that have been tampered with. If an item has a warranty sticker of serial number these cannot be removed, taken off, or scratched off. Doing so will void your warranty. Most of the products that we well are for expert use. Please take them to a professional if you do not think you have the skills to install. If the issue with the item is due to incorrect installation or application of the item we also cannot replace it under warranty.

Yeah, I figured it was already bricked from the start. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't doing something wrong. Sent them an email within like 30mins of opening it. Thanks for trying to help, I appreciate it.

Updating this thread for anyone that runs into the same issue: I bought another R4I 3DS card from the GBATemp sponsored website, it worked as it should out of the box. Sorry that you had a bad experience with them. I personally never had a issue with them but i'm glad that you have a working flash cart now.
