tl;dr We can send any ds demo to the (3)DS(i) using a modded wbfs.

ALSO, we CANNOT send homebrew, only officially signed demos. So don't even ask.

This is a project that is fairly simple in concept: replacing a .srl(DS download rom) with another to basically have access to all demos(nintendo channel, ds download station, etc.) from the original DS. Yet, as simple as this may seem, I found ZERO mention of this anywhere else. None. At. All. So, I got to work. Here's the video I made showing this off:

(Yes, this has been around for a while, as seen by the upload date. Kinda forgot about it for awhile :P)

So, with that out of the way, here is a rundown of what is happening:

We load up a .wbfs with the custom .srl(brain age demo) on the Wii, which will begin broadcasting this out. Now, here is why I think this is so unrecognized:

1) Not too much purpose

2) There are only about 10 games capable with sending .srl files to a ds.

PBR actually just so happens to send a .srl to Diamond/pearl(NOT Platinum or HGSS, as seen here), and this seems to be the most stable game to do this with. So, onto how to do this:

YOU NEED:

1) A homebrew'd (v)Wii
2) 2 (3)DS(i)s
3) 2 Gen IV pkmn games, one of which must be Diamond or Pearl.

1) Download the inject.zip from the attachments

2) Get a PBR wbfs and name it input.wbfs

3) Get a ds demo and name it input.srl

4) Run inject.bat and wait :P

5) Copy output.wbfs to the (v)Wii.

Run it, start up a ds battle, and connect both pkmn games.

When it's done, you should have the demo on the ds with Diamond or Pearl.

It would be interesting to see someone use the Nintendo Channel to do this, since that used to simply broadcast straight to Download Play, without having to go via any particular game on the DS side.

Well, you caaannn use games that go directly to dl play, but they're usually pretty unstable I've noticed. Also, wasn't nintendo channel shut down?

@shutterbug2000 That's correct, it was shut down, but I suspect the SRL-distributing code is part of the app, not taken from Nintendo's server at runtime. It would take a lot of work but I don't think it would be unfeasible for somebody to modify where it reads the SRL from initially (not Nintendo's server, any more) and boot to SRL broadcasting. Obviously it would be far more complicated than just replacing the SRL in an existing game, though, and for limited benefit.

EDIT: For what it's worth, users could also do the same as this fairly easily with a DS/Lite/DSi with a flash card. Nintendo's DS Download Stations, the things where you could walk into a store and download a demo, were really just regular DSs running carts which served demos, most or all of which have been dumped now. It's also entirely possible to replace the SRLs being served.

True, but for the 1% of us who don't have flash cards(myself included ) it's cool. :P

More sadly is, percentage about people who can use ATM your method (having Wii, 2 3-DS-i and 2 PKMN games), is even less than that 1% you said ...

That moment when you have a legit copy of both Pokemon Diamond and Pokemon Battle Revolution...
I am definately trying something with this.

Come on, @Pikasack, it's not a long thread.

Sure you can. FlashMe pacthes sig checks in DLP. But only on DS phat and DS lite.
that limits to the people who can use this a lil more as most wouldnt want to risky bricking thier old DS flashing it just for a further limited use and by that point people might give up and get a flashcart

but point of use doesnt usally go hand in hand when it comes to homebrew or entrypoints for exploits at all :D

Well, FlashMe is brick-proof, but I see your point.

flashme isnt brickproof one wrong slip of the foil tipped toothpick or eyeglass screwdriver and you create a short that shut it off mid flash, FFFT. either you brick because of partial flash or brick because you blew a Fuse. ^^;;

I read somewhere that if the toothpick slips it will automatically stop.

with the Phat theres less risk but w/ the DSLitethers a contact tan next to where you haveto bridge if you slip and bridge That the DSLite shuts off. but as accidental slip leading to aborting flash? (stopping mid way) w/o bridging a shorting contact? No as your correct Flash me stops when you slip.

i know the possibility to brick i'd done accidently as when i was doing it to my DSLite back then i used a Eyeglass Flathead screwdriveri bearly slipped and ended up making said "Short" and it shut off at 15% (when it hits 20% theres an emegrancy "Rescuse" mode thats been flashed to booting from the GBA Slot a Supercardset not to run its menu but boot directly the flashme flasher.

its not Completly brickproof (if the short occurs before 20% / you bridge that short that shuts it off as that has a 1 in 5 chance of Killing the DS) but considering those that'd be using this wouldnt risk that short window of bricking thier DSPhattie/Lite and grab a flashcart (you can get stupid cheap these days an AK2i (DS/lite/DSi upto 1.4.4) or the R4 3DS RTS Gold.
