Equilibrium is a good dystopian action movie.

And those are the two best war movies out there.

I think there are a lot of movies with the great plot, but for me "Sherlock Holmes" is the best one.

Try Heat. Good actiony crime flick.

@x65943 You forgot Apocalypse Now and Full Metal Jacket.

I haven't seen these, but I will watch them if you say they're up there with the two that I mentioned.

Thanks.

There's a Redux version of Apocalypse Now, It's worth watching both versions. Redux is hella long though, so make extra popcorn.

If the redux version adds more scenes, why do you recommend I watch both?

It changes the tone of the film enough. Think of it as a re-cut, some people like the original better.

I think I will watch the original first then. If you've got any other war movie recommendations let me know.

It seems like this genre is really hit and miss.

REALLY hit and miss. If you don't mind subtitles there's an excellent Russian film called Come and See. Highly recommended, I'd easily stack it above Platoon and the like.

Thanks, I will have to give that one a try. I don't mind subtitles at all.

Good movies? I can give you loads, but action was mentioned. Enter The Ninja, watched that last night, really hysterical! I wasn't too big on Franco Nero being completely dubbed, but I understand why. The problem is that the dubbing is so obvious and for an English language film like this, dubbing is not too well recommended. Chinese Kung-fu movie, of course, dub away. This? They could've changed the story to where Nero's character was an Italian immigrant who served the American army. Nero's English I assume by that time was good enough. Especially when he didn't say too much in the movie.

But yeah, the film is B-movies personified.

I'm a B-movie fan, so my recommendations are more rooted in those. Falcon Rising with Michael Jai White, it's on Netflix.

The OP mentioned horror, suspense stuff. Ringu, I haven't seen the remake with Naomi Watts, but I bet it's very similar. Great horror without gore, violence, just fantastic suspense and imagery.

Return Of The Living Dead, Re-Animator, horror movies with some humor.

War movies? Inglorious Basterds. I can name more centered war films, but I just go with something that's loads of fun.

Highlander, saw that yesterday, awesome movie. Christopher Lambert to me is the white Morgan Freeman. I can listen to him for hours, and that laugh of his. It was hard to grasp that he's French. Clancy Brown really owned the movie though, even just by going with his voice. There can be only one, that good stuff.

Didn't think of suspense. The US version of Funny Games is fantastic, better paced (through alternate dialogue) than the original Austrian version. Plus, Naomi Watts XD
