Depends what comfortably means.
Try -$1000 for housing and utilities [this is very generic, real cost varies] - not including internet, tv.
Cell phone? Deduct what you want as a plan.
Food? This varies, try $50/100 a month, if you are NOT eating out.
Entertainment outside?

hahahah are you saying we are a poor state? anways i live with a roommmate right now and after i pay all my bills i have about 1700 a month left over
Well since you are actually living this scenario, you can quite easily answer the question. So can you live easily on that amount of money???
There is not too much logic in asking other people if they can do it or not as they may have other money sucking activities that you do not have.

On Louisiana being poor most stats do not place it high up on the list ( https://wallethub.com/edu/richest-and-poorest-states/7392/ ), though there is probably a large difference between the fanciest parts of a big city and a small town without much going on in it/where the big employer might have left.
We can run numbers and ask questions but one of the main ones I would ask is how sustainable is your income? If it is a seasonal boom trade that you can only do when you are young/physically fit then it might not be best to commit to too many things you can not walk away from. If it is something you will be able to do for a long time and is only office work that you can do with two broken legs then that might change things.
With that said are you going to try to own your own house or is rental your preferred path? For the former then I will also ask if you know your way around when it comes to building trades; such a thing makes life considerably cheaper.

I think $1700/mo for clothing, food and other extraneous comforts is a good surplus. I may be deluded because I'm a poor college student.

I wouldn't spend that much solely on food, I was just including clothing as something to buy after the bills are paid.
Shit, I make nearly $1,100/month. I added finances and whatnot. I could live by myself by having $10 left over each month. Not possible. I added Gas for car, utilities, car payment, rent and others. I wouldn't receive any other benefits except medical. Cheapest rent in my area in Ohio is $600/month
I know it was lumped together, but I mean you can usually get by with clothing you already have. I'm just trying to say that you can live on a much more bare minimum lol
Clothing comes to my mind because I haven't bought new clothes in 6 six years. I get my clothes from goodwill and they fall apart pretty quickly.
It's like vimes' boots theory of socioeconomic unfairness.
