Apologies in advance, I've searched high and low for a tutorial. I cannot find one. Today, I bought myself a 2ds. It's FW is on 8.1.0. I know for a fact I can fully use my Gateway. But I can't do anything. I'm a n00blet. Someone please help me. I cannot use my Gateway card and I paid over $80... I'm getting nervous that I wasted my money...

Its totally easy. Copy the launcher.dat onto the SD Card of your 2DS an then open the Internet Browser on your 2DS and go to http://go.gateway-3ds.com then the Gateway launcher should boot the Gateway Menu. You need to set up the Internet Connection first.

In that you should set up the EmuNAND and then do an NAND Backup and Save the NAND.bin on your PC.

1. Download latest launcher.dat and copy it to the SD of your 2DS.
2. Put the SD back into your 2DS.
3. Set-up your Internet Connection in the System Settings.
4. Start the Internet Browser on your 2DS and go to http://go.gateway-3ds.com
5. Setup the EmuNAND and then do an NAND backup.
6. Then select Boot Gateway Mode and you 2DS should now reboot and you can use your Gateway Card.

And that was it.

Can I boot GW mode by holding L and going to DS Profile...? Or no...?

No, you can`t use the DS Profile Exploit to launch the Gateway Launcher.dat on the 2DS. But you can also hold L when you launch the launcher.dat via the Browser.

Because the mset Exploit for 4.x is not useable on the 2DS and the gateway launcher.dat only works with the 4.x mset Exploit. Do not try to downgrade the mset to 4.x on the 2DS because then you can get stuck in the System Settings and then you have an big Problem.

You must use the Browser Exploit to use the Gateway on your 2DS.

What purpose does that serve?
By default, Gateway automatically boots into cfw mode so you can play games. Holding L allows you to access the Gw menu, where you can back-up games, format emunand ect. This menu will automatically appear if you boot without the GW card inserted.

Thanks. But what is MSET and what should I in my given situation do with that? I need to work these things step by step before I brick my system.

Do not bother about mset. Just use the Browser Exploit to boot into Gateway mode. ;)
Well, honestly, I plan on fully modding my system. As I have .CIA files of my games from my friends' 3DS. He backed up my games and now I want to install them onto the system/SD card. I do want to know what MSET is and how I can use it on my 2ds.

Mset isn't a feature you can even use with gateway on 2ds. But what it involves is going into the system settings app, clicking a couple of things and booting into the one of gateway's modes. It's prized for being easy, fast, and not needing to be connected to the internet.

Only cfw can use it though. And there's even better options now like themehax (and no, gateway can't use that either :P)

You can use all features that Gateway offers. The only thing you cannot do is launch it through the system settings. You'll have to do that by going in go.gateway-3ds.com. The entrypoint doesn't change anything about the card's functionality though.

Is CFW, Multi Rom Menu, associated with Gateway's abilities?

Put this FBI.3ds on your gateway's micro sd card https://github.com/Steveice10/FBI/releases
put the latest gateway launcher.dat on your big sd card.
go to go.gateway-3ds.com on your 3ds browser (don't put your system to sleep while connected to the internet)
press select and choose the ugly blue and white FBI icon.
find the cia you want and press a to install it. back out of FBI and your game should be on the home menu ready to play.

CFW is an alternative for Gateway which I would consider. Especially rxTools. It's much more stable than Gateway and offers more features like DSiWare and GBA support. However, you can't use 3DS files with it, only CIA. Personally, I use both GW and rxTools and I can only recommend this combo. As for the multi ROM menu, GW has been supporting this for nearly 2 years now.

I wouldn't use Pasta, rxTools is way better
