This might be an accidental finding or just my luck but I would just like to share and ask whether it works for you.
Im currently using n3ds xl 9.0e booting to rxtool 3.0 (latest build) + ctrbootmanager.

The trick is to Power On your 3DS while remaining the lid close (Screen OFF).
Just wait for a while until the power button pulsing indicating its successfully booted.

I manage to boot successfully to emunand with 100% success rate (10/10 in a row). Not only that. It also automatically fix the 3D issue. So you dont really have to do it manually by closing and reopening the lid =D

If i power on while lid is open (screen ON), success cold boot varies from 50-80%

I suspect that keeping the screen off allows the console to get better raceattack speed processing the codes, rather than giving half of it processing the display. This will not magically helps if coldboot was not successful at all in the first place

Try it and let me know if it works =)

I have a feeling that this won't work for 2DS....

The cold boot rate is indeed improved, got 9 out of 10 in a quick test. Thank you for your discovery.

It doesnt fix the 3d however:
If you leave 3d on while booting, it looks like its fixed but head tracking is not working on the n3ds.
If you then turn off 3d, the brightness goes down in 2d mode. If you close and reopen the lid, head tracking starts working and the brightness issue is fixed.

If the 3d slider is off while booting, and you activate it with the slider in emunand, it will be broken like usual until you close and reopen the lid.

Glad that it works =).
The 3D effect + head tracking does really fix for me. I did a quick test just now to confirm.
Maybe its just my luck though.

Confirmed this does nothing. It's a placebo. When the lid is closed it still activates on startup for the exploit. The screen doesn't actually shut off until the homemenu loads. You can see in the dark when the screen is on and when it shuts off.
