How would I go on with updating from 7.2 to 9.0-9.2 so I can coldboot?

The only way I can see is to use the gateway dg downgrade packs in the gateway menu to get to 4.x. Then from there use pasta cfw with nop90 mset entry OR the pbt-cfw. I prefer the first of pasta cfw with mset. Higher success rate.

To get sysupdater .3 on your sysnand use the fbi injection in the rxtools thread to get it to stick. Then use fbi to install sysupdater.

Now I know some would say just use dev mode in rxtools so you can use that. But I don't recommend dev mode as sometimes might overlook it. So use pasta cfw and you will be set.

You have to use sysupdater to update your sysnand. Anything else will brick your 3ds.

Do you have sysupdater already on sysnand? If you don't want to downgrade to 4.x then your only option is to use rxtools DEV MODE then. But please be careful when using that. From my experience pasta cfw has NEVER let me down yet.

And USA 9.2.0-20U firmware has 126 files just for your reference when you do it. But note that using the pack you will get to 9.0.0-20U and need 2 other files if you wanted 9.2. But its no big deal in the end.

Since you are able to use rxTools, just install sysupdater on your sysnand and run sysupdater on rxtools-devmode.
Of course all cias go to sd:/updates

Yes use rxtools to install sysupdater to sysnand. BUT again exit out after and use DEV MODE to update with sysupdater. Anything other than DEV MODE for rxtools will brick.

Just whatever you do make sure you get the ones for your region and for the OLD model. Be careful to not get any other ones or you will need a hardmod. So the 9.2 USA pack will be 126 files in all.

Okay its 126 files for 9.0.0-20U. Why can't I just install this with CIA manager?

Just don't do it. Use sysupdater it was made for it to update sysnand. It has something to do with patches when going into cfw. So DEV MODE rxtools which is in the menu of rxtools.

On the iso website they have packs that have the update without the patched mset or internet. Do these even matter?

You can, but with the varying results why step outside something that works unless you have a hardmod?

Pasta and sysupdater have never reported issues like the rest. It may be user error in the other attempts, but do you have a hardmod to risk it.

Unless something works time and time again it's not proofed. Do as you wish and if you want to go into the details of why 1+1=2 than use the wiki. Though only if you have the backup knowledge to understand it otherwise accept what people here say...

Im not risking it lol. I am going to install how people here suggest.9.0 I just hope has entry points like the internetbrowser unless I dont need it anymore. I am planning on installing themehax to coldboot.

Do you need mset or the browser? Since your speaking in the 7.x you have and old3ds which has a browser exploit that naively works so do a full update, yeah?

Any old 3ds brand new today, tomorrow or next year, or second hand one updated to 9.2 is exploitable and able to rum cfw without anything other than a internet connection or android running the relevant software. From there you can install menuhax.

On 7.2 I can currently use both internet browser and mset to launch rxtools. When i go to dev menu it brings me back to my sysnand. Do i have to install the sysupdater cia? I am upgrading to 9.0 btw. I have sysupdater 0.4.1 btw

And to top it all my preference is also pastacfw as it has never failed me yet. But dev mode is the most recommended now. So I will assume it is just as safe but I am hesitant to use it as many things keep changing. So if you use dev mode I would revert back to like the stable builds of 2.5.2 or 2.6.

But to sum up to be safe from bricks keep these 3 things in mind and you will be good:

1) Use the correct update packs for region and model
2) Use DEV MODE in rxtools menu
3) Use sysupdater .3. I can't stress this enough use the one that works even though it is a old build. Use .3.

Spot on, i have noticed many people claiming the old rxtools is obsolete and updated, but for a user why change or 'fix' what isn't broken?

For updates outside going through the system itself or a cartridge, pasta is the safest to date as well as the older sysupdater. Why would you not use it until something else has had time to be proven safe in all situations. I'm sure it's great work but nightlies are just that and i wouldn't put any stock behind any build.
