WARNING for Splatoon players: A player has been spotted who can soft-lock your save

2717093-spratoonbox.jpg

This player can soft-lock your save, destroying all your hard work and making you restart the entire game with a blank slate; if you don't take the proper precautions. Don't let this happen to you.

-Tips to be safe around this player:-

  1. Backup your save! Copy it to a USB. Do this now, before you get a chance to see them. If you see them and you lose connection in a match with them, it's already too late.

  2. Spot them first. They're an octoling carrying the unreleased Hydra Splatling. Any other octoling (and perhaps Hydra user) could do the same, so don't ignore them if they don't match that description perfectly.

  3. If you spot them, do NOT leave the room! Keep playing until they're no longer in the match. This stops your plaza from trying to load them, which is what destroys your save. Alternatively, you could back out of that room and immediately join another Turf War, but do not return to Booyah Base.

  4. If you are too late, all hope is not lost. But. You'll be waiting until the next Splatfest. I personally do not know this for sure, but presumably loading up the game during Splatfest will wipe the player out of Booyah Base for you, thus freeing your save from the soft-lock.

  5. If you see this player, please take down their name and report it. The closest info we have so far is that "the name started with a k and had numbers in it".

  6. If you want to help spread the word, go write a post on Miiverse about it. Write it in drawing form, so it can spread around as graffiti as well as people seeing you.

IF this is actually a thing it sounds more like an unintended side effect caused by whatever "hacking" this unknown did. They are most certainly not a predator, quit being dramatic. Makes sense that it locks up when trying to load data that other people do not have access to, but likewise it's not unreasonable to assume that this was a simple stupid mistake and one that will likely be fixed in a matter of days/hours if this is a real issue.

I'll have to agree with blacksniper. This doesn't really sound like something done intentionally. However, if it is intentional, then I hope this user gets banned.

Yeah, I'm sure they accidentally hacked their wii u and accidentally made the changes to play as an octoling, then accidentally went online. Locking other peoples saves may not be intentional, but it was no accident to take an octoling online. Still taking hacks online, still scum.

If we are lucky maybe they will "accidentally" get hit by a bus.

This all seems really suspicious in any case, is there even any actual proof this even happened? Again, being overly dramatic and wishing death on a person that we do not even have any real proof exists is just silly. Doesn't help to get all fired up over potentially nothing.

I won't deny that if this is legit and this actually did happen as we have been told then yes it should have remained offline, but it didn't and beyond that nobody needs to get so pissed off they are making death threats to anyone. Accidents happen, nobody got hurt. Have some damn perspective.

Well there is already video of people playing as Octolings even though that isn't yet a possibility. Seems like evidence enough to me that if people are reporting seeing octolings online, they very likely are. And if they are reporting that these encounters are crashing their game, I'm inclined to believe them.

You are the only one being overly dramatic here. So far one user jokingly mentioned getting hit by a bus and 0 death threats were made. The news has hit the official Splatoon's Twitter, the devs will surely look into it and now people are aware on what to do if they see anything suspicious online.

Sounds like a typical Reddit lie
Except the warning started on Squidboards. Try again.

ikr!

btw, that money actually fuelled 1/5 of the amount I needed for the vita! I've not even touched Splatoon for a month, anyway...

How much are they selling Vitas for now? I thought I had heard Sony was ending support for it with new 1st party titles. Not sure if that's true, but I had heard something like that recently. I did just read that Sony isn't sure there is room for them to have a successor for the Vita. Which is a bit sad to hear.

In the UK, they're selling Vitas at 2nd hand shops like CEX for about £110. Splatoon got me £24.

I do hope that there isn't a successor for the Vita. The only thing I think of when I hear "PS Vita" is "PSP with analogue sticks and a rear touch pad that's never used in games I buy". I just keep it for the haxx, anyway.:yaypsp:

Anyway, back on topic now...
