Hey Guys,

So I have 4 Wii's I got from eBay at a really decent price and I'm setting some of them up for friends. I have a slight issue with DiosMios though. It won't work on my 500GB HDD for some reason on my Wii or any of the new ones. Wii and VC backups work great, but GC backups just give me a black screen.

I know I have everything set up right because I can put some GC backups on a small drive and DiosMios loads perfectly without any setting change at all on the system. I have the latest d2xv10-53beta installed to IOS 249[56] and 250[57], latest USBLoaderGX and cfgUSBLoader installed, and DiosMios v2.11 as seen from the loaders About/Credits screens.

I loaded the backups to the drive using DMToolbox.

I also went out of my way yesterday to do a full FAT32 Cluster size 32kb format on my 500GB drive which took about 12 hours to complete. Is it possible that it's this drive, or can I not have Wii and GC games on the same partition? Could I set up a second partition and still have all the games on one drive? Just have GC games on one partition and then Wii/VC games on the other?

I'm racking my brain here and any help would be appreciated!

Wii games can be on the second partition.
Gamecube need to be on the first partition. (well, the first primary, but you shouldn't format partition as extended/logical).

it's perfectly fine to use the same partition for both games.
GC are in /games/ and Wii are in /wbfs/

DIOS MIOS doesn't work with 4K drives, but USBLoaderGX should detect that. if the loader don't warn you then your HDD is properly setup.

DIOS MIOS doesn't work with all drives.
If it blackscreen before the DM splashscreen then it's more likely that your drive is not compatible.
You should try Nintendont instead, it works better (but still not with 4k drives).

Thanks Cyan!

I was wondering if it was a drive compatibility issue but I swear these worked on the drive on my first go-around. Perhaps not though. I can try the partition deal, but it that doesn't work is there a guide to get Nintendont setup you could link for me?

my drive is randomly working with DIOS MIOS.
It's a seagate free Agent Go 250GB.
Sometime the drive sends the wrong descriptor (I really don't know why, probably bad HDD firmware?). it seems computer can manage to still access the data, but DM need the proper information to load the partition's data.

when I have a black screen, I try again. shut down the console fully and try ~10 times.
if it works at less than 10 tries, it's like my drive. if you past the 10 tries, I think it's not compatible.

Well, I'm using a 500GB 2.5 Toshiba in a Patriot III converter which I believe is compatible from past reading - It's been a while though since getting it, but I believe I based the purchase on a past forum I read here. And I've tried well over 10 times with different games between a couple different Wii's. I'll try to find a Nintendont guide and give that a whirl. Thanks again!

I wrote the nintendont guide on the first post of nintendont thread.
read that first post and it should answer all your questions.

That worked! Thanks for the tip Cyan, I was thinking of going down the Nintendont path but wasn't sure. Headache gone!
