Hardware European New 3DS with US firmware.

I'm from the Netherlands and am looking to get a new 3ds xl with firmware 9.2 or lower. However twice now i've stumbled across an european 3ds with serial number qeh1005 but its showing firmware 9.0.0-20U instead of E. Does anyone know what this is about?

Maybe it was a typo? From what I seen at stores all USA ones start with QW.

Nope not a typo, i made him take a picture of the firmware and the serial.

The strange thing is that it plays European games just fine.

However looking at the first post here, the person also says he has 9.0U on a qeh. But i can't find much information about it.

That is interesting. Sorry that I can't read that language but do you know if those are brand new or used? If used I wonder if those owners had region changed them or even done a motherboard switch with US version? If its the region change method I would be very hesitant to buy it as those can't access eshop. And on this thinking maybe you should ask him to take a picture of it in eshop to see if it has access. If it doesn't then it is most like a region changed console.

It is interesting indeed, the ones i found here in the Netherlands were brand new from major stores. The same case seems to be with the person on elotrolado as google translating his message says this :

The weird thing is eventho it says 9.0.0-20U it still plays EU games just fine.

I verified that the e-shop works normally on it.

Huh, might this be something that the scene could look into? Maybe the possibility of a cross-region firmware type of deal?

Maybe dump the sysnand for investigation or something, not sure how that would work.

Interesting.

The first post guy from the link you provided basically is saying that he bought his console at a store called "Carrefour".
Now, this store I have seen in my country, but only in the centern region of it, not the north where I'm from.

Now I don't know if that store is also found in Southern America or Spain, so that leaves it up for a guess.

Although, I can tell you for sure that Carrefour is some sort of a Walmart equivalent in here, so it is NOT a second hand seller.

The Carrefour the guy is speaking of is from Mucia, Spain.

I am betting for a letter typo, highly unlikely that he could have a 9.0U system and play European games IF the console was new.

However because i don't own it, and im not just gonna risk the money for it, i can't dump or do anything. But i've found 2 People here so fsr with this.

Do you know if you are able to play US Games by any chance or only EUR? You are already accessing the US Eshop if I am recalling correctly.

I know, If it shows a U, but plays both USA and EUR Games, that could be a bad thing for nintendo if we could find out what it is that allows this. Another wonderful nintendo screwup.

Hellz92, could you or one of your friends be able to check if it plays both USA and EUR games? and if so, dump the NAND and Share with the community? Surely we could guide you on how to remove any personal ID/files from the Nand before sharing but that would be incredible to have!

It's kind of hard for me to check, as ive had contact through mail with the seller. There's still a possibility the seller is pulling a scam, and as a student i hope you canunderstand that i can't just risk the money for that.

But this has been the second seller ive found with a firmwarw like this on a EU model. Both in the Netherlands.

Carrefour is a French supermarket that has different shops across Europe, The big ones are called Hyper Carrefour (blue logo) and sell food, books, garden stuff, etc.. and electronics then you have Carrefour (Carrefour Market and a red logo) does not have any electronics part and mostly only sells food

It actually doesn't. That's why I suggested this. I have a European console but my brother has an American. None of the European cartridges I have work on his American system.

Cool, advice, if its under 9.2 firmware don't doubt in getting it, you know cause of the free games that can be played w customer firmwares and 3ds cards (gateway), reconsider if its above 9.3+

And just to add my 2cents in. I never seen it happen YET on the new models but on the old models I have seen some in person where the version in settings is showing less than 9.2 but is actually higher than 9.2. So exploits and such didn't work. So what you may want to do is to have a spare SD card and slap that in with a GW launcher w/ OoT prepared or the ninjhax files with CN save already loaded. Just saying to save you the hassle if these new ones are going around like those old ones. Granted it was rare to see it in person like that but have seen a handful of the old ones.
