Guys, really need some help on this. Like mentioned, I got an old 3DSXL with 4.4 and Gateway cards. These are what I've done so far:
1. I already installed Rxtools and this is my launcher for most of the time since I don't have to carry Gateway cards all along.
2. I've followed this tutorial installing patch AGB_FIRM on my Nand with FBI while running Rxtools emunand mode (my emu and sysnand is linked, supposedly :) )

So far, none of my GBA VC or DSi ware work :(. They either give me black screen or Software closure notification whenever launched. I just wonder if I have to install AGB_FIRM into my Nand while running Rxtools sysnand mode instead. By the way, is there any way I can stick my Mset profile exploit with this 4.4 3DS, I came across the Mset sticking tutorial but it seems to only work on N3DS. Any help is appreciated.

I think you have to replace the AGB_FIRM .cia on SysNAND, not EmuNAND. You can boot RxTools into SysNAND by selecting it in the menu after holding R while it boots up after preparing the SD Card.

From my understanding, running a GBA VC does an entire system reboot and goes through SysNAND even if you booted the games from EmuNAND. In addition, the titles must be installed on both SysNAND and EmuNAND.

Or maybe I'm wrong. I actually had a lot of trouble getting this to work myself but from what I recall installing the patch on SysNAND managed to work out for me. (I can't seem to back up my saves in SaveDataFiler though, because they appear corrupted...)

I think you have to run rxTools in Dev mode (under advanced options i think)
Thanks forggespirit but I couldn't find that option any where within rxtools menu

Did you install the VC on both Sysnand and Emunand?
Hi megaben, does it necessary to do so since I heard that if I have linked emnuand, I only need to install the VC on emu one. By the way, if I'm about to install the VC on sysnand, should I go into rxtool sysnand first and install the VC from there? Can I use Gateway mode without emunad to install the VC with bigbluemenu on the Red card as a game card?thanks

Thanks CripsyYoshi, so the procedure would be I need first to run rxtools sysnand mode then how can I install the CIA from there since there? Do I have to inject the FBI into sysnand before and if so, how can I do it? Since I already have Gateway card, can I just boot into Gateway sysnand mode then install the patched AGB_Firm by using FBI on my Gateway red cart instead?thanks

Installing the game/BIOS cias via GW3D is do-able, but keep in mind that you can't actually boot GBAVC/DSiware with Gateway.

(For anyone else reading the thread: You can inject FBI although in some cases I've had better luck installing with DevMenu.)

Im running rxTools with no GW. I don't understand it, but the VC GBA games have to be installed on both your Sys and EmuNand, and then when you play on EmuNand they will load just fine.

So if using Gateway, I will install the FBI or Devmenu into sysnand mode right? After that, I will install patched AGB and my VC on sysnand while being in Gateway sysnand mode? Afterward, should I boot my 3DS normally without Gateway or emunand to play the VC?thanks

That seems to work for me, and I can even boot the GBA in Sysnand using Rxtools.

However, I'm not sure if this is the best method, because I can't dump my GBA saves through SaveDataFiler and I feel like it's a permission conflict because the patched .cia isn't legitimate.

Sorry about that -- I used FBI to install. Use the option to write FBI over the "health and safety" then use that FBI to install the normal FBI CIA to your SysNand. Boot rxTools in Sysnand, install your VC CIA to Sysnand, then boot to emunand and install again.

Thanks crispy, pretty clear for now :) , just one more question, there seems to be no install to nand option in Devmenu so how can you install the patched firm and VC CIA into sysnand with Devmenu? Do you know what's the different between Devemenu and Bigblue since they look exactly the same to me

Installing anything in DevMenu will install to whichever NAND you booted from RxTools. If you booted to SysNAND and install through DevMenu you are writing to SysNAND.

If I recall correctly, DevMenu is an official Dev tool Nintendo uses/used to use, and BigBlueMenu is a modified version of it. I'm not really sure what BBM improves though, because I personally haven't run into any issues with DevMenu yet.

Cool, good to know :). But still I have another question to bother you with :P. How can you run DevMenu in RxTools SysNAND mode? You just injected it into health and safety like Megaben mentioned previously right?

Oh sorry, I wasn't thinking. FBI injection is there for the purpose of installing .cias like DevMenu, but because you have a Gateway card you can just boot DevMenu.3ds (Or FBI.3ds if you prefer) in SysNAND Gateway Mode and do the same thing.

Really nice, may be one last question. In FBI, I have the option to install to NAND or SD card so I suppose that if I use FBI to install the VC, I have to select NAND as destination right, since like you said, if I use Devmenu, it always go to NAND?

I believe it should be set to NAND (in RxTools/Gateway SysNAND) for the BIOS, but the VC should be installed on both Sys and EmuNAND.
