As stated in the topic, how do you guys feel about hacking your Wii U? This thread is by no mean to cause flame war or anything because everybody has his or her own opinion and there is no right or wrong. If the post is posted in the wrong section, admin or mod please moves it to the appropriate section.

Anyway, most of us want our system to do multiple things and since we own it of course we would like to exploit the potential of our system. In other word, homebrews or something incredible. Here I really appreciate those who work hard to fulfill the goal and hope we could accomplish this in no time.

At first, like everybody, I would just like to exploit the potential (the power) of my Wii U system and if possible just play some homebrew games and I do really feel guilty for that. Depending on your point of view of what homebrew is. Some might think that it is the act of condoning pirating because we modify the system to run unsigned code. However, right now I gotta tell you that I don't feel guilty no more. In fact, I would like to get my Wii U hacked and play bootleg games. You know why?

1) Wii U games are really expensive and they are never on sale. Unlike PS3 or some other consoles, which you could wait for like a year when the companies will issue a GREATEST HIT, which is cheaper than the original copy and they are brand new.

2) Most of the bastards, in order to do business, buy games in bulk and then resell them in higher prices. For instance, Wii Sports Club, the original price of which is $39.99 brand new. Now you cannot find this game anywhere in store in brand new condition. Well you might say, if you cannot get it in store you can get it online. But wait, look at the price, the price of the used games, which people ***** up with a lot of scratches, are higher than the price of the game that Nintendo sells in original pristine brand new condition. Anyway, we can get a digital download. But wait if you are a game collector, you might want to get a brand new physical copy instead of the digital download. If you really like the game, you have no choice but get it for higher price. But do you think it is worth it? Not sure about you guys, it seems to me that it is a rip-off. With our system being able to play bootleg, this will eliminate this problem and the business of those suckers will be over.

3) WiiU is not region-free, it means you gotta stick to your region games. If a game that is specifically released for Japanese region, and if you want to buy the game and play it you have to spend your money on getting a Japanese Wii U. That is stupid. Besides, some of the games in other region are cheaper but if you own a WiiU, then there is no way for you to get a cheaper game. Unless the game in your region is on sale, you have to pay full price for the game even though you know the same game in other region is cheaper because it is NOT REGION-FREE.

In other word, if you want to play and own a brand new, physical copy of the wii u game. You must meet this condition:
- You have to buy the game right away as soon as the game is out.
- You have to be rich and have the money to spend
- You cannot wait for the game to be on sale

To sum up, if the game you want is out, but you cannot afford it at that time, you are either stuck with a digital download or a used physical copy or you have to get it through third parties that sell the game in so freaking higher prices (used or brand new) because Nintendo never releases any greatest hit and they only sell a certain number of copies and if you wait for too long, you won't be able to get physical brand new one.

And Nintendo, do you think everybody could afford a game at least $50 to $60 for Wii U?

It'd be great.

- No region locks
- Backup digital content without being locked to one system
- Play emulators on Wii U Mode
- Watch Blu-rays (+ region free) on Wii U

So much potential.

No point hiding behind morality; I just want to pirate games. Until a loader of some sort comes out, this exploit won't make an ounce of difference to me.
Though the devs have released it so late into the console's lifecycle, and with the NX around the corner, we may never get a backup loader at all.

Piracy is a long long way away anyway because it requires an ISOU exploit, which they're still looking for and will take even longer before such an exploit is stable enough for public release. The Wii U is likely to be dead by the time piracy is possible. So the piracy argument is somewhat irrelevent to the Wii U hacking concerns.

Hykem already has an IOSU exploit. They're refining it at the moment.

i do not now, nor will i ever, condone privacy.

you know what else this dilemma pretty accurately describes? every product in a free market system.

someone owes me a tesla.

The Wii U doesn't have a lot of titles that are screaming "Buy me!" at me right now (Although Super Mario Maker is probably the only exception right now) since I already own all the games I want, so I legitimately do not see piracy as one of my options even if the Wii U were to be fully hacked. I'd mostly have my fun in the reverse-engineering of the games I already do own - custom Mario levels, custom Mario Kart 8 tracks and characters, so on and so fourth. Emulators and whatnot would be a close second though.

I just want region free and the ability to copy save files. Plus, custom levels, homebrew, and emulators would be fun too. Seriously, though, I have no desire to pirate Wii U games.

Super Mario Maker. ;)

Let's see.. There's like 6-7 Wii U exclusives which are a must and this is too much? Jeesh. If you can't afford even only 6 games then your budget probably can't sustain on wasting money on gaming consoles.

I can afford to buy the games, I just don't want to. I refuse to pay $75AUD for a 2 year old first party title, when it would be in the bargain bin had it been released on any other system.

I cant justify spending $80AUD on subpar games. The wii u doesnt have anything outstanding. There's no console defining game. Maybe if the games were cheaper. But with what the games are right now, and how theyre priced, I would just pirate them if i had the chance.

The prices here for Wii U games tend to be very decent like Splatoon's £18.99 now, Yoshi's Wolly World £24 and etc. Affordable prices, very affordable actually.

What the actual fuck. Splatoon is $70 here. How the hell are you getting these games at what are bargain prices and we have to shovel out a day's worth of work for the same game?

Edit: Doing currency conversion that's about $40 CAD (Opposed to $70 CAD). That's $5 less than most 3DS games' prices. Further it shows that it's about $30 USD (Opposed to $60USD). What the hell, Nintendo.

A preowned copy of Splatoon is $68 at EB Games, or $80 new. A standalone copy of Yoshi's Wooly World is $80, or $90 with the Amiibo.

You need to realise that the world actually consists of more than the UK. Also Im seeing prices double yours, so youre full of shit. You also need to take into account currency conversion.
Plus Australia fucks us hard with prices
