Hello guys,
So I recently wanted to play SSBM on my WII and tried lots of methods but none worked for now.
The current situation is as follows : I have homebrew with the latest version of USB Loader GX,
Dios Mios' WAD installed and all the others prerequisites installed aswell. Booting Project M from my 30GB USB works fine but when I try to play Melee I get a blackscreen after the "Dios Mios" screen, my wiimote shuts down and doesn't reconnect by pressing A while my WII is still on.
Additional things to know : the USB on which I have melee is a 4 GB FAT32 with the folders "games/GALE01/game.iso" and "games/GALE01/sys" in which there are a ton of folders with names such as " ┴¾Ü¸°▀).╩8{ ".
I used DMLizard to optimize my iso for Dios Mios, it is an NTSC version of the game while my WII is PAL(didn't make any problems for Project M which is NTSC too)
Lastly USB Loader GX asked me to copy my game from USB to SD as if I were using Dios Mios Lite which I am 100% sure not doing and now it's probably booting from the SD card and that's how I got that far (to the blackscreen)
So I just wish I could play melee from anything (I have DVDs, USBs and my SD if necessary)
Thanks in advance for your help!

Well, there's a few things you could check, but my first question is: have you checked out Nintendont? It might be worth a try. Though, you'll probably want to use a clean ISO.

As for DM, it's a bit picky about cluster size and alignment. Also, make sure you're using a newer version of USB Loader GX and the paths are set correctly.

EDIT: Oh yeah, some flashdrives the Wii has troubles with. I'd recommend switching to a larder SDHC card or a proper USB HDD.

Hello, thanks for your very fast answer, so firstly, I have already tried Nintendont and for some reason no matter what I do
after I load it form Homebrew it tells me "FAILED TO LOAD KERNEL FROM NAND" and then puts me back on the Homebrew screen.
Also, I'm quite sure that i am using the last version of USB Loader GX and I know my USB drive has the correct cluster size but I never heard about alignment.
Finally I could try using the 30GB USB drive I use for Project M but it's formatted in WBFS with Brawl on it and I cant get to copy Melee on it with WBFS Manager or Wii Backup Manager.
Thanks again !

What is your setup? A SysCheck couldn't hurt. Here's a nice little tutorial from JoostinOnline.

As for the USB drive. WBFS is a very poor and obsolete FS. Anymore, I'd recommend formatting it as FAT32 (you can split Brawl into two WBFS [not the same as the FS you're using] files) or NTFS. Sounds like you're using an outdated setup.

Here it is, you are probably right btw :
-snip-
You need IOS58 for Nintendont. Updating to 4.3 should install it. You could also just grab NUS Downloader, manually grab the latest IOS58, and use whatever WAD manager you use to install it. As for DIOS MIOS, my guess it's some issue with formatting or something, but Nintendont I would say is better in everyway. It's your choice what to pursue. I'd also check out the USB Loader GX thread and make sure you're up to date. There's also a thread for Nintendont if you're interested in that.

Even Cyan recommends abandoning WBFS as a drive FS.

You're better off formatting the USB to Fat32 and have the Wii games in WBFS format. That way, you can transfer the Gamecube ISOs without any problem.

Ok so thanks a lot for your answers, i'm now on 4.3 with IOS63 and Homebrew 1.1 , I installed nintendont and am still using my 4GB FAT 32 USB drive
but I still get to the same point as before, which is after selecting my game in Nintendont (USB>Super Smash Bros. Melee) I get to a blackscreen in which
during the first few seconds my wiimote has all 4 LEDs lit up and then the mote turns off.
I tried with and without a WII disc in during the process but the same thing happens and I have a GC controller plugged too..
EDIT=I tried to run it with different settings (with DEBUG On and LOGS On) but it still does the same and the "ndebug.log" that was created in my USB drive is filled with symbols like "~ØBÌUVõQk„C¨"
EDIT2=Forcing MPAL/PAL50 and NTSC didnt work

Sounds like your USB drive does not work well with the console. Try another drive.

Thanks a lot for the help but by putting the game on my SD card and changing the ISO to a PAL version of the game worked
(dunno if it comes from the drive or from the ISO but at least, problem resolved)
Thanks a lot you guys AWESOME !
