Hello! I am going to be importing a >=9.2 Japanese n3ds with Gateway Menu pre-installed through DS Profile. I have tried thinking of a way of installing Ninjhax without buying a 3ds Flashcard or a Japanese Cubic Ninja copy (I already have an American copy) and this is what I came up with. Since I am new to this I need some verification on whether or not this would work.
1. Boot into the Gateway Menu through DS Profile(?)
2. Launch RXTools MSET Installer through a DS Flash Card
3. Launch RXTools and Boot into RXMode to get patch signitures and enable region free
4. Launch Cubic Ninja from RXMode and install Ninjhax from there

Is there anything I am missing or is any step unnecessary? Furthermore, will I need more then simply a DS Mode Flashcard and an out-of-region copy of Cubic Ninja even if I take these steps? Thanks!

You will need rxtools to have Devmode fixed for N3DS or it won't work. Rxmode has firmlaunch so it's a no go.

But I think CakesFW can do the trick as long as you don't enable firmlaunch

I'm confused. I have an NA copy of Cubic Ninja, so I should be able use it in RXMode, or am I just mistaken?

So it's coming with Gateway installed to MSET (downgraded obviously), but no Gateway cart?

The only reason you would need to boot to the Gateway menu is to make a backup of your sysNAND and to format your emuNAND (optional, but highly recommended). That'd be your step one, the rest seem fine to me.

Your gonna need a gateway card. Or a cubic ninja or OoT card. (Optionally wait for TubeHax to get ported to a CFW like RXtools or reinand)
You can use Tubehax to regionfree your US cubic ninja.
Booting into gateway menu will do you no good if you do not have a gateway card.

Why not just buy a US N3ds?

The thing is, rxmode has firmlaunch, meaning it is spoofing the firmware to look like it is higher than it actually is, to my understanding (ex: 9.5 on what is actually a 9.2 console). That also makes ninjhax think the firmware is 9.5, which is not compatible with Ninjhax 1. So whether you have a cartridge or not, you can't run it in rxmode - that includes emunand. You can probably run Ninjhax 2, though, since it works up to 9.9 firm.

Or you can use CakesFW in sysnand or emunand, without firmlaunch, and it should work! I haven't tried though

I think it can still work, as I noticed that with RXtools I can replace the health and safety app with FBI. From there all I would have to do is install a Cubic Ninja .CIA, not launch RXtools before starting it, and we would be good.

No this will not work. You won't be able to boot the CIA without going into RxMode before since you need to have the signature checks patched out to do that.

Cubic Ninja is not a legit CIA though, so it won't launch without any signature patching. Although, I wonder if it would work if you injected Cubic Ninja into an app, akin to FBI injection :P EDIT: Nope, that wouldn't work either lol

I'm telling you dude, right now CakesFW could be your only solution right now!

Forgot about the sig patching. Is CakesFW bootable with MSET?

Noticed CakesFW doesn't offer Region Free, but I think I have a solution. What if I installed the RXtools FBI-over-Health&Safety thing, then swapped MSET to CakesFW, launched FBI and installed Cubic Ninja. Any problem with that?
Yeah if you can figure out how to inject FBI into sysnand. I'm not sure if it's working for N3DS but here's the manual way: https://gbatemp.net/threads/release...ect-generator-jpn-usa-eur-chn-kor-twn.391525/

For region-free, you can use this cia: https://gbatemp.net/threads/release-free-multi-patcher.391945/

I thought CakesFW has region-free though

CakesFW has region free listed as a future goal, and I will use that method to install FBI. Thank you for your help!

This particular post may be helpful for you: https://gbatemp.net/threads/release-cakesfw.391200/page-29#post-5562376

Edit: ah, forgot that that doesn't work anymore. But since you are already on 9.x, you can choose not to apply the "firmlaunch" patch/cake and it should work

Edit: wait, I was able to download something from that URL so it may still be working, but you don't need it anyway. It's just something I thought you should read just to understand exactly what firmlaunch is :P
