I haven't touched the 3DS in a while and I totally forgot how to do some of these stuff...main thing is how do I get GBA roms running?

I am on OFW 4.5 but Emunand 9.5ish with Gateway...I remember I had to run some sort of CFW or what not to get GBA roms running but I don't remember the name nor how to get to it....

If you run rxTools, launch RXMode sysNAND and you can load GBA cia's installed to sysNAND. If you install them to both sysNAND and emuNAND, then you can launch them in emuNAND.

I have some questions about this:

1.) Does it matter how you install them to SysNAND? Can you just use any CIA installer - like BBM in GW mode SysNAND?
2.) Even custom GBA games are safe on SysNAND?
3.) A signature patched AGB_FIRM isn't necessary anymore?

  1. Doesn't matter how, so long as it actually installs to NAND. I only know how FBI works where it's a manual toggle, but if you know how with another it'll work.
  2. Nothing is ever 100% "safe" on SysNAND. Your system could die in a freak eShop accident, theoretically... It shouldn't break things if it works, though, so just keep a NAND backup.
  3. It is as far as I've seen. Remember to install the patched AGB_FIRM to EmuNAND if it's not already. (I've heard you can get away without installing that to Sys which makes sense, but try it if it doesn't work.)

1. You don't have to install the GBA games to NAND and you shouldn't actually. You are fine by installing them via BBM in GW mode-Sysnand/RxTools-Sysnand.
2. I don't think using custom gba roms will give you an issue. Maybe with saving games and stuff, but thats a footer issue when you build the cia.
3. I think the modded AGB_FIRM is not needed when using rxTools, not sure about GW. You could try before modifying anything on your sysnand titles. Can't test this myself as my AGB_FIRM is modded.

Also, if you're fine with running them via sysnand GW-mode, you wont need to install them in emunand. Thats up to you.

Whoa, what? This is the first I've heard of this, last I saw nobody patched AGB_FIRM to cooperate with an EmuNAND properly and thus the games were still on SysNAND for actual use.
You got a source thread/post for this, because that's interesting stuff?

1.) Yes.
2.) Yep! I have a Pokemon rom hack installed on my 3DS at the moment and it hasn't caused any problems.
3.) Correct.

Well, I wont post any thread/source as I'm on mobile and I'm lazy. If you're talking about the little extra I said, thats assuming Emunand - Sysnand are unlinked

Thanks everyone, I was wondering about this ever since rxTools made GBA/DSi games possible. :)

I'll just boot GW mode SysNAND, install the games with BBM, do the same for my (unlinked) EmuNAND and play them on rxTools EmuNAND. I won't patch AGB_FIRM then. :)
