In this vine we see some logging of am:u. am is the process we need to downgrade through, but we don't have access to it with ninjhax2. If Ironhax gives us a backdoor into am, and we have enough control over the process; then we will be able to downgrade. That said, Smea might have a different version of Ironhax than the one he showed off that doesn't use am, or we might not get (enough) access at all.

IRONHAX will be the same as NINJHAX 2.0. You can only get Ironfall Invasion with the lastest firmware, and since 9.3 patched ARM9 exploits to use Gateway, install cia and stuff then it's not possible to downgrade. IRONHAX will only be able to run homebrew.
am:u is never referenced in that video, it's pulling an am:sys handle. am:u is never used by any apps at all, am:net is useless, and am:sys is also useless for installing things. So without an arm11 exploit you can't possibly install .cias.
Wouldn't you need to have arm9 exploits in order to touch NATIVE_FIRM, thus making downgrading pointless?
No if you can fully remove packages you can downgrade them just fine. And you can also modify the NAND directly for NATIVE_FIRM I believe.

Since we're talking about downgrading, some guy named anebel gbr actually downgraded @Viking1337 's little brother's 3DS from 9.8 to 4.5, even if they forgot to make a NAND backup. I have no idea why this guy have been keeping it a secret, but that means that it IS possible to downgrade, but not with Ironhax.Ah, that clears things up. Thanks again for the info.
EDIT: Wasn't really sure what motherboard swapping was.

Is this true? Unless this guy has a closed exploit (very unlikely) then I don't see how?

Viking said that he installed a new board or anything. I don't know much about it, but since Viking contacted him you can ask.
So he replaced the motherboard? That's weird if that's how he did it. I dunno if that's downgrading or just switching.
yeah swapping the motherboard is not "downgrading" its simply swapping a 9.8 system for a 4.x system...so its downgraded, but its not the same system any more
