I know you can use the Android app "3DS X-Loader" but my friend doesn't have a phone she can use. What gets me mad is that she had to send me her 3DS just so I can setup Rxtools so we can boot it through MSET (On a 9.0 o3DS). Why the heck isn't there any kind of ROP for Gateway to be able to boot it through MSET like Rxtools can?!
Yes I know we can downgrade to 4.5 and boot Gateway that way, but we WANT to keep 9.0 for the ACNL RAM Editor. It's really important to her.

Gateway's inability to boot from 9.0 gets me so angry. Yet it can boot from 9.0 on N3DS.
Two things that Gateway doesn't have that gets me mad:

1. Can't boot from 9.0 (Downgraded MSET) like Rxtools can
2. Can't play GBA games like Rxtools can

What the heck are you waiting for, Gateway?!

Wow, why don't you just:

1. Avoid letting the system run out of battery
2. use the DS profile exploit to play CIAs when you fail at #1
3. If you don't have ten minutes in your life to install CIA files, buy a n3ds?

Everybody else copes just fine. And if you don't like something, vote with your feet and don't buy it. I don't go ranting on the Internet because I don't like the taste of Aldi milk. I simply don't buy it and get on with living my life.

well tbh it does seem a bit weird GW havent added support for o3DS users to use the downgraded MSET....i can kinda understand them not using the 4.x MSET with it causing bricks for 2DS owners if they format, but they could just switch to 6.x MSET for n3DS and 6.x+ o3DS users to avoid confusion on what MSET is safe to install......maybe, just maybe they are too busy working on something more important....n3DS 9.6 encryption keys or 9.3+ sysnand support.....or maybe they have just lost the will to continue in any significant capacity with the CFW's being out

Yeah honestly I tend to keep wi-fi off on both of my 3DS systems (I have an old and a new) to avoid downloading updates and whatnot and whenever I feel like playing on the go I pick up my old one before remembering that I have to use the browser exploit and go "lol nope" before switching to my other one

MSET is my exploit of choice.

Jeez buddy what's your damage? OP was making a genuine/valid criticism or complaint. Just because it doesn't affect you personally doesn't mean it isn't a problem. Also your example is kinda poor because unlike Aldi milk Gateway is actually changeable/updatable and the GW team definitely have the capabilities to do what OP want. Not to mention there aren't really many alternatives apart from RxTools which doesn't support .3ds ROM loading so. "not buying it and getting on with living life" isn't particularly great advice

They are complaining that a paid solution has less features than a free one. Instead of complaining, why not just NOT buy it, and then give Gateway a little bit less money? If Gateway are doing the wrong thing, people won't buy it, and they will have to sit up and take notice. If people keep buying it they will have to assume people are happy. A rant on the internet is not going to change anything, but enough people choosing rxTools will.

Also, if the reseller made representations to the OP that Gateway could do the things he wanted, he has a right to return it for a refund, and if the reseller didn't make any such representations, then the OP bought it knowing full well what its features are and can't really complain now. I don't go buying a car and then rant on the internet that it sunk when I drove it into a lake (if I wanted a boat I should have bought a boat).

Boycotting a company won't tell them exactly what's wrong with it. Sharing opinions online is a great way to let a company know what you think, even if they don't read every comment, they get a general 'consensus'. Plus it's well known that the Gateway team monitor this site

Hell, if that's the way you like going about things I'm totally fine with it but what I don't get is why you were so desperate to shit on MattKimura who clearly likes being a bit more vocal about how he feels about a product he paid $80 for

I'm kinda surprised a homebrewer hasn't fixed this yet, obviously the knowledge is out there in open source form. I guess we don't owe them anything, but whoever does it might get a little recognition. (and it might be kinda fun to embarrass GW too :P)

Yeah, but he paid $80 for it knowing what it could do. Hence me saying it is a bit silly me complaining that my new car doesn't work as a boat. Unless the salesperson told me it was a boat, it is silly for me to buy a car hoping it turns into a boat once I drive it off the lot.

no, its more like everyone knowing that something is perfectly possible, and with GW being the pioneers of all this stuff its somewhat weird that they still havent added a rather basic feature.....yeah sure they didn't promise it when he bought it, but i still dont think its wrong to at least wonder why they haven't bothered to add the feature

If a feature is important to him, then why not hold off buying it until the feature is added? The price is not going to change and supply won't suddenly dry up. If he is buying it thinking that an announcement of this feature would make everybody go crazy and buy up the supply, then he knows he is buying it to put in storage until the feature is announced, hence complaining that it doesn't have it now doesn't make sense.

A better example than cards and boats is iPhones. It is perfectly technically feasible to be able to add a microSD for storage but for some reason Apple have decided not to give us this feature. Why? Who knows. I know that it pisses me off every time my phone tells me there's no room for to take a photo. However, if this feature was vital to me, I would buy a Samsung instead. I wouldn't complain that on the box it said it couldn't receive a microSD, on the internet it said it couldn't receive a microSD, I went and bought it wanting it to have a microSD slot, and now when I open the box and find it doesn't have one, I go ranting on the net about how I paid good money for this phone and now it doesn't have a microSD slot even though it has been proven to be technically possible. If the microSD slot was vital to me I shouldn't have bought a phone where it is known to not have one. I would have either waited and made do with a cheap phone if I expected them to have one one day, or bought a Samsung instead.

he has actually said its not "for him", but a friend of his.....and i dont think he has said "THIS IS USELESS WITHOUT THIS FEATURE!!!!!".....just "why haven't they added a feature that by now pretty much every alternative has already added with seemingly very little effort involved"

ofc the answer may be that they simply cba doing it, but again, its not wrong to at least voice your opinion that them not adding it is kinda weird at this point, its not like its some theoretical possibility that nobody knows if it could happen or not, everyone knows its perfectly possible so not adding it makes them seem incompetent

I agree with you that not adding it is pretty incompetent. I feel this way about my iPhone all the time :-)

Does she have a laptop? Before I downgraded my O3DS what I did was set up a local wamp server with the files hosted on it that are needed to launch GW. I then used Connectify to connect directly to the laptop's wi-fi with the 3DS and would launch GW from there. That way I didn't need internet to launch GW and could launch the spider exploit without having a real internet connection set up on sysNAND. It might be a bit more complex to set it up this way, but it works!

On n3ds: cubic ninja, ocarina of time and downgraded mset. I use the latter just fine.

On o3ds: Downgrading the console to 4.x and mset exploit. Although browser exploit is quick and easy to use, if you can access a wifi point.

I just want to say that it's not that bad ;)

Yeah I don't mind the internet exploit myself, it's really easy when you do have wifi connection. When she told me that she takes her 3DS with her when she's out, I was like UGH just use it at home. But in her situation with her sick mother, she constantly goes to the hospital or clinics and has nothing to do.

In reply to @Quantumcat, I'm only upset because I promised my friend that Gateway would be reliable. I never expected Rxtools to be "Pasta-fied" and become a great free solution, on top of that it has that handy MSET possibility on 9.0 that she needs. So I offered to setup Rxtools for her and help her sell the Gateway for cheap just to get rid of it. I just get mad that something as simple as the MSET exploit makes us have to resort to using Rxtools when Gateway could easily implenent it. I feel like if Rxtools did it, why not Gateway. I'm not new to Gateway/Rxtools, I see how long it's been and they still have no solution for 9.0 users. Yet they tease us by releasing support for N3DS 9.0 users for the MSET exploit.
I wasn't expecting anyone to just suddenly make this possible, just expressing my thoughts here on GBATemp. I've seen worse posts than mine, but even those threads don't get shitted on.

Sorry for my responses, hope you manage to find a buyer for the Gateway cards and not lose too much money on them. I guess it was just a matter of being miscommunication between the two of you so you didn't know exactly what her requirements were. You see this all the time in project management - one team doesn't describe their requirements super clearly to the implementation team, they make a few assumptions to fill in the gaps - the first team even changes their mind a bit along the way - in the end it is overbudget, delivered after the due date, and does nothing team 1 wanted :-p
