That's how the VC on the Wii U is like.
I have DK64, and I can tell you you can notice the lower brightness when playing a VC title, and for what I've seen it's the same for other consoles too.

I trust the hackers in the scene, it's legit, there are many problems with ROM injection that need fixing.

Well, Super Mario 64 is normally a very brightly colored game, and those screens look considerably darker than SM64 usually does.
I agree with you though, the video looks much darker. Maybe it depends on the game that's injected into, they could have different preset brightness levels.

As I understand... No. Because it is a WiiU hack, so it will not be released until they release the complete hack.
