Hello all,
As the title says, I'm currently using a 3DS Link and I now want to use Gateway. However, I am an absolute noob when it comes to flashcards and I don't fully understand the tutorials, guides and FAQs I have looked up on this forum (English not native language). I would appreciate someone to help me out and step by step tell me what to do.

Here's what I want to achieve, as well as what I'm working with:

- I have roms from both USA and EUR regions (.3ds extension).
- I have a 3DS that originally came with 1.0.0-0E firmware. I upgraded it to 4.4.0-0E using a legit game (Monster Hunter Ultimate 3).
- The latter means I don't have access to the internet browser.

I want:
- to use EmuNand
- to be able to go online (without triggering a firmware upgrade)
- to install DLC
- to backup my 3DS Link savefiles from the SD card to use with Gateway
- to work with the newest possible versions of 3DS firmware and EmuNand'

If you need more information, please ask.

I hope this isn't too much to ask, but as I said, I don't really understand what I'm reading in those tutorials, and I'm afraid to mess it up beyond repair
Thanks in advance.

You can use rxTools (CFW) its totally free and you will have all the features GW has minus the .3DS loading part.

Am I right to assume I can use this with my 3DS Link card? And what do you mean by not being able to load .3ds games? What kind of extension am I supposed to load instead?

I don't know what you mean by 3ds link card, but you can load Rxtool without any kind of card.

You can only laod "cia" games, thoses are gale that you install on your sd card and launch via the home menu. You cannot directly load .3ds roms.

3DS Link is a Gateway clone. The rxTools How-To says I need a DS flashcard such as the blue Gateway card, so I figured my blue Link card should do the job as well :)
(I don't have access to the 3ds internet browser)

Ok thanks :)
Another question: I have just made a backup of the SD card with the saves. In the root there's a couple .sav files, and there's a folder called Nintendo 3DS with some illegible folder and file names in there.
Can I just use these saves with the cia versions of the games, or do I have to convert them somehow?

Does rxtools work with the New Nintendo 3DS?
What does that have to do with anything? I don't have a new one.

Yes, any DS flashcard that works on your 3DS can be used to install the MSET exploit for rxTools
I've just read this tutorial, but it makes use of the browser. I don't have access to the browser.. Can I still use rxTools somehow, cause I can't figure it out

Oh, I just wanted to get a quick reply from someone and since your post was relatively new, I figured it was the best place to ask until I eventually got the answer... :glare:

Well, why didn't you just post in the rxTools release thread? I just posted there and I got an answer immediately. Hijacking someone else's thread is not exactly the way to go ^_^

Are the save files for DS games? The only way to edit save files on the 3DS is using a program called savedatafiler. That will extract the save from an installed .cia file and place it on the root of your SD Card. From there you can either make a backup or you can edit the save file and inject it back.

No they're 3DS game save files. I'll have a look at it when I got this damn rxTools thing done :P Worst case scenario I have to play all the games again ^_^

You don't have to use the browser to install the mset exploit since you have your blue card : o) there's a .nds to run to install it(never actually used it myself, but ask arround in the rxtool support thread)

Can you install and run CIA files with 3DSLink? Because you have to be able to in order to convert the saves. But AFAIK 3DSLink is cloned from an older GW version that didn't have support for that.
You need to install SaveDataFiler in 3DSLink Mode and use that to decrypt the flashcart saves, then import them into the CIAs in rxTools with the same method.
The other option is buying a GW, I think the saves are compatible between the two since it's a clone after all.
