PS1/2 Burned PS2 disks showing up as "DVD Video" in PS2 Browser

So yup problem in the title. I burned some games (Monster Hunter, Kingdom Hearts & Kingdom Hearts 2). Kingdom Hearts seems to work fine but Monster Hunter & Kingdom Hearts 2 don't load, they go to the Browser and when I highlight the icon the text says DVD Video instead of Playstation(c)2 Disk, something like that. They both seem to work fine in a PS2 emulator.

Any tips? I used Nero Express and burned 'em all at 4x speed.

I don't know if there's a specific model since it was ages ago I modchipped my Phat PS2, but it seems to be something Matrix Infinity.

Are the games ESR patched? In that case you need to boot up ESR to boot those games as the ESR patch is an exploit to play burned games without a modchip

If you softmodded your PS2, then your games need to be patched with ESR patcher as some games won't load properly without it.
I don't think the mod chip itself has to do with anything, I might be wrong though.

I've got freemcboot and i've used ESR in the past.

Just download the ESR patcher, patch the iso of the game and then burn it. It should work.

In theory it should work without patching it if it's chipped, but PS2 chips are prone to failure due to the way they made the disk drive - it could either be a dead chip or a nearly dead drive.

Is that possible? My PS2 had issues reading most of my disks when I dug it out of my attic (around Christmas), only could read some movies and such, but when I borrowed a friends' controller yesterday and turned Diagnosis on in the settings, it started to work. Everything I've tested seems to work well, minus the ones that didn't work back then anyway.

PS2 disk drives are notorious for dying. If you use anything but sony media, it will inevitably die eventually, some faster than others. The best way to preserve a PS2 is to softmod it with Freemcboot and run everything from a USB or hard drive (or through OPL with network if you have a network adapter).

You get a bonus as you can build a big database of games and there is a homebrew app to upscale to HD if you're running through component cables. Tales of the Abyss looks fantastic on it.

Hmm... I'm not sure, my dad bought for himself and then gave it to me when I had enough age to play videogames properly. He says he bought the system around 2003 or so, he doesn't remember the shop anymore but it was here in Portugal and came with some movie or something, but that may be his memory failing and bought it separately. Anyways, he modchipped it. And... that's all what he remembers... I think, in these years, the PS2 had disk reading problems or something similar and he would fix it, and it always succeded.

I think I got a little bit moved on lol. That's all I can explain though.

There's your problem, as there is a limit to how many times you can fix one of those drives. If it isn't the laser, it's something else.

Hm, weird. Going to try to patch the thing with the ESR Patcher. If it still doesn't work, it's the PS2 itself, right?

I was thinking of something similar, along those lines. If he repaired it too much, it reached a state a point where it can't be repaired. Or, one of the repairs had an underlying issue which didn't show up until recently.

It seems like your games are already patched with the ESR patcher which is designed for softmods. It's recognised as a DVD video because that's how ESR tricks the PS2 into reading a burned disc. You should be able to simply run ESR on your PS2 and boot it from there. It's designed to load discs like this.

You run it as homebrew, however that works on your modchip

You need to install the ESR launcher through FMCB on your PS2 and should be able to load the games from there.
