Of the Resident Evil franchise, 2 is by far my favorite of the bunch. It features two of the most badass hero's around, an engaging plot of twists and turns, plenty of scares and ominous dangers, and was all around a fantastically fun game.

There's been no word if the game would ever get the remaster treatment from Capcom, like their recent remake of RE1, or the upcoming remaster of 0.

Which is why the good people over at Invader Games have taken to creating their own fanmade remaster of the game, in Unreal Engine 4.

And did I mention it's free?

Keep in mind everything is still in pre-alpha stages, but everything looks like it's coming together nicely. Can't wait to be able to play it hopefully within the next couple months.

The game will be released on PC.

But what about translations like Gyakuten Kenji 2? I think nobody reacted here. After all, they could release this game on the 3DS if they wanted to.

Capcom has to issue a cease and desist on this, or they put their RE trademarks at risk. Unlike copyrights that last for however long Disney decides to keep lobbying Congress, trademarks only last as long as a company is using and willing to defend those trademarks.

^ If anything comes from it, it will be this. The rest of you are right, capcom are never going to let this get anywhere near released if they mention anything in Resident evil 2.

What they should do is change all the characters to different names, remove any reference to Raccoon city and just make it generic zombie game staring Lee Kenway and Clara rudefun and then release a mod for it that changes the names back. xD

Exactly. I'm getting flashbacks of the cancelled Chrono Trigger remake as we speak. Shame that developers thwart projects like this instead of contacting the ones behind them, taking them on-board and selling the finished product. I'd pay good money for a proper RE2 remake.

Or you do what Capcom did with Megamon VS Streetfighter. Although I'm sure Capcom would rather charge for a RE2 remake.

That's something else. Miles Edgeworth 2 was a translation patch, where you must get the ROM yourself. This project however seems to be a complete game with copyrighted assets distributed.

I'll never understand why some people are so vocal about what they're doing. I might be the odd one here, but if I had such a project, I wouldn't give away any info until maybe a week before release, this way companies can't issue a C&D in time, and if they do it anyway after the project is released, everything is already on the internet and essentially impossible to take down.

Exactly, well hopefully even if it does get shut down it "happens" to hit a torrent website.

To put it better, translation patches normally escape publisher's radar because they:
1 - Normally doesn't contain copyrighted assets (but actually Gyakuten Kenji 2 fails this by re-using assets from the 1st investigations and other AA games, they are actually included on the patch)
2 - Normally the patches are released to games that didn't received localization announcements (the translation for Fire Emblem if is the exception to this, but probably hadn't received a C&D because it only works on 4.1~9.2 3DS). And since normally capcom games are published only through capcom subsidiaries there's no chance that niche publishers like NISA, Aksys and Xseed will do localization of capcom's games. And since capcom usa and euro doesn't seem to actually care about Dai Gyakuten, probably it's fan translation won't see a C&D. PL Vs AA was only published because it was a Level 5 developed game and published through Nintendo itself.

That's not always the case, if the Original Creator like's what there doing with their game (RE2), then they'll let it slip by, sometimes even provide some Assistance. Heck, this game already
looks good, just some more fixes/improvements & BOOM! Box-office class game!
