So, GameStop's got an offer for swapping your old 3DS up to the new3DSxl for a SWEET deal, but I'm not sure if I should do it quite yet. I'd love to have an XL, but I already have a JP N3DS (not XL). The thing is, that one's on 9.9.

So, here's what I'm thinking. I don't want to do an in-store System Transfer because I would totally fuck myself and not be able to use rxTools/NTR/diddly squat because you have to update. So, could I just back up my saves, keep my various emuNAND cards, get the serial number from my O3DS, swap the systems, then on the NewXL, make an emuNAND and do firmware spoofing to be able to access the eShop then ring up nintendo to move my eShop account over to the newer console?

Or does the new3DS not have any way to make an emuNAND/convert an O3DS emuNAND without like, Ocarina of Time/Cubic Ninja? Because I only have the JP Cubic Ninja. Could I load the JP Cubic Ninja from rxTools without an emuNAND?

you would need cubic ninja or zelda oot and the chances of you getting a 9.2 or lower new 3ds is slim to none.

You could always ask the shop if you could buy a N3DS, and do the system transfer at home. Then with a reciept and your O3DS in hand, go back and get credit from the store. Not sure if that's something they would allow, but worth asking.

Basically, there's no way to System Transfer with a fresh Out of the Box system without running some kind of firmware spoof, which on N3DS requires either OOT or CN.

Not to mention, said exploits for N3DS also require files on the local SD card of the system.

Unfortunately it is very unlikely that Gamestop would have a n3ds on a firmware that is still exploitable.
Why, because new stock replaced the older firmwares by now? I'd think there would be a few unsold ones from older batches.

I'm not worried about SD card issues. microSD management works regardless of updates and I do have the screwdriver for those screws on hand. It's way the fuck less inconvenient VS the O3DS screws.

I meant in the sense that they may make you do an in-store system transfer.

Oh, right. Eh, I can do without it though. Nintendo Support can just move all my games/account stuff over to a different console if I offer up my latest purchases and/or serial number.

Yep. Units have been shipping with a non-exploitable firmware for quite a while now. I spent the past few weeks looking for a 9.0 n3ds in stores and could not find any anywhere. I live near a fairly large college town and city, though. Maybe you will get lucky and find a returned one that wasn't updated.

yeah its probably going to be harder finding a US 9.0-9.2 n3DS as even some of the launch consoles came with 9.4 preloaded, whereas EU launch consoles where pretty much all 9.0-9.2, although that was only the first batches, all subsequent batches, even the second run of MM consoles were 9.4+, i guess 9.0-9.2 n3DS consoles are going to be rarer than 4.x consoles ever were (unless a 9.3-9.9+ downgrade method is ever released :P )
