OP
My parents and I were planning on getting my 6-year-old sister a 2DS for her birthday or Christmas, and since she has a bad habit of playing some games for a bit and then pretty much completely abandoning them, I thought it'd be a good idea to buy her a flashcart, but I'm not sure if we should purchase a Sky3DS for her or some DS flashcart. She usually only ever plays games available in the US.
There are a lot of 3DS games she'd like to play, like Pokemon X or Y, (specifically X or Y, no DS Pokemon games for some reason) Nintendogs + Cats, Animal Crossing: New Leaf and Tomodachi Life. I'd imagine she'd also really like SSB4, since she really likes to play Playstation All-Stars: Battle Royale. There are probably a lot more 3DS games she'd like to play, but those are the only ones I can think of right now.
And a some of the DS games she likes to play are gamesc like Tamagot

Please don't suggest Gateway, my sister would update her 2DS whenever a new update is available, (like I do) so she wouldn't be able to use it all the time. And like I said, she only really plays US-region games, so 3DS region lock isn't too much of an issue. I also plan on getting both a Sky and DS flashcart for her at some point, but I'm just trying to figure out which one would be better to buy first.

EDIT: I forgot to mention the DS games she likes to play, I have no idea how I missed that, so I'll shove them down here:
Tamagotchi Connection: Corner Shop 1, 2 and 3, Petz, Tomodachi Collection, Cooking Mama, and more that I can't think of off of the top of my head right now, I'll add those a little later.

The fact that you only talked about 3DS games that she'd like to play answers your own question. You didn't mention any DS games at all, just 3DS games. If you want to spend the money, get a Sky3DS.

Shoot, I didn't put any DS games on the OP?
I'll go and fix that. I didn't even realize that.

to get a sky3ds , no worry about the game limited ,maybe your sister want to paly some new 3ds games in the future ,right ? ,you can goes to "game4deal" for checking the sky3ds !!
Can someone get rid of this guy?

And yeah Sky3DS would be best. She probably won't care about not getting to play eShop games or anything like that. As long as you can take care of writing the games to the SD card for her, she can just plug 'n' play.

Also, you might want to check out a product called "gametag", invented by an Aussie, it's a bunch of stickers on a keyring that attaches to the back of the 3DS. You stick each cartridge to one of the stickers and it can't fall off, and you can insert it into the 3DS easily. It means that she will never lose any of her cartridges. It would really suck to lose a cartridge as expensive as a Sky3DS.

Guys he was already set on the sky3ds, there is no other card out there other than the clone.

"Hey guys should I get a sky3ds or a ds card"

They are two separate cards that play roms specifically what the card was meant to play. So again, you already answered your question.

yes, you considered so much for her, the sky3ds supports the newest 9.9.0-26 and new 3ds games, DS flashcarts also works well and simple on consoles, You can just ask her what game she would like better or usually play, ds/2ds games or 3ds games? then you can choose which one to buy first, for ds flashcarts i would like recommend you the R4i Gold 3ds RTS card from r4ids.cn , its operation more easy and card goes stable

well about " only playing US games" don't means that you can't get a translation of a fun game that have only in europe or japan xD
but anyway .. to play DS games on updated system you need to instal that .cia that remove the block of the dS flashards right ?
also with gateway you could get her some emulator so she could play even more games (or install VC) .. also with a CFW but theres the problem of having to acess emunand :v I think you can teach a child to do this but about the care about update I'm not sure. You can also get some emulators with a common DS flashcard(Mega drive/genesis one worked far better I was expecting o-o), or maybe DStwo ?
(I know that because I remeber some dificulta ways to run emulators/custom servers of something on pc around 2000's and kids from this age to to today just memorized all the steps and was able to play, booting emunand and not lettig connection on the sysnand to not update don't seens as a porblem lol

Oh also if you think she sould be fine, give her just an DSlite/dsI, wait she get a bit older to give a 3DS or what come on that time o3o
note : I can tell I'm an 2DS hater ... I mean WTF NOA ??? I can't see a 3DS something planned for kids at all, even more because the 3D effect can prejudice then ... removing the 3D effect don't make it "made for kids" ... it's like having a porn movie with censorship and wow now it's safe! if the thing wasn't planned to kids, don't try to make it... tis is something I hate so much of NOA and other stuff... like having and childs and an mature version of superheroes/their enemies and becaus ethis way of thinking a lot of nice things come or censored or don't even come to us xp
well just my point of view sorry for coming with all this when you are just asking an opinion .. well this is mine XD

Sky still works for now, but could theoretically be blocked by an update any day now.
You can say the same about DS flashcarts, but Nintendo seems to have given up on patching those for now, and even if they didn't you could grab a Supercard DSTwo which has been updated to deal with Ninty's shenanigans before.

If your sister updates whenever possible, be very careful with any 3DS-mode solution.

There are some ds flashcarts (Dstwo and r4i gold) that work on the latest 3ds firmware without having to install that cia. Kinda getting off topic, but the 2ds is a budget model and can't get broken hinges, which makes it a good option to have for a lot of people. That's my opinion at least:)
ohh that I don't know, it's nice then XD
This is one side of view .. I mean I don't hate it at all.. is a "cheaper 3DS for who don't care about 3D!" but you can see, the marketing for it was all going around childrem (all the propaganda and stuff) so it's show their real objectve :/ in some ways it's really a downgrade of the 3DS > actually one screen (so, not a DS lolo*shot*ok just ajoke here ), no hinge (one of the main caracteristic of the DS family), no 3D ... the only upgrade it got is on batery lifetime and bundled SD card (compared to le 3DS"lite")... I eman it could come with the cycle pad pro bundled as well, but come with " a version of it coming out!" this is kinda sadtreating a complex technology like this like an common toy :v

but as I told, it's nice that i'ts an " cheaper 3Ds" and sttuff (not more resistant since they tested and the screen break easier than 3DS hinge with falls lol), but the problem here is that it sold for more than the o3DS"lite" , almost the XL price, that aren't cheap at all so it's completely deception where I can look for it...(also stupid name, it culd have ben named like " 3DS mirin" "3DS mini" or something " less confusing for unaware parents" like everyone makes joke when came a new nintendo console XD

Like now, My 3DS broke, if I'm not able to fix it, I thogth about buing a 2Ds IF it was cheaper like it meant to here... since it's not I'm going or to get one like the old or save for a new 3Ds :/
if it was a 2DS on the start my floor would be broken now instead =3= hahaha xD
ANYWAY XD sorry for offtopic here xD

about the topic, so maybe a 2/3/DS with DStwo would be nice ... but it's sure they aren't going to be patched? (on the 2-3DS case) so she could play a lot or of stuff on the emulators... since her insterest on 3DS games isn't big, if you choose the 2-3DS you couls just buy some of the games used or on eshop (or install legit .cia on sysnand before updating :v I believe that all or at least half of these games are there in legit .cia ... pokemon XY, ORAS and Smash4 is sure but that are more you can get her maybe she get interest on then ... if not it was free anyway haha )

2ds are actually really cheap to get out here. They were $60 refurbished from Nintendo's own site earlier this month and they are frequently on sale for around $70 at different stores. I think it's heavily marketed towards kids because it seems like every kids plays on tablets these days, even at a very young age, and Nintendo wants to get in on that. By making it seem very kid friendly, parents will be more inclined to get them for their 5-7year olds. Plus, Nintendo is already advertising the N3ds to adults (who likely grew up with gameboys and now have disposable income).

I do know quite a few adults that enjoy the form factor of the 2ds, though; it's surprisingly comfortable to hold in your hands.
maybe becuae talet are cheaper, I belive? XD
but I'm unlucky here .. if I import I cpuld be taxed and it be coustly than getting one here :P NOA only cover US and Canada, sometimes Mexico don't care to Brazil and the rets od america so meh I don't have much to do :v but really a nice price there

yeah but in general, mostly of the games are made for 10year to more... so yeah it's all about market :P

anyway , my hate is more for "whats behind it" than the product itself, as I told you if the price was better I was getting one :/ you see, NoJ don't even cared of having it with their own region :v I was surprised that South Korea have it :v
