Hey guys, I was still using sysnand on 4.4 to play my games on gateway, but I found that some games need to have a higher firmware version emunand, as well as cias from dlcs, so I need to update.

My question is: how to keep my save files from the games I had? Since using this process formats the sd card.

I made a back up of the files inside the sd card previously, is it safe to just copy paste everything that was inside after the gateway finishes the emunand process?
Should I just copy the SAV files?
There's also a big NAND.BIN file, should I copy it into the sd card as well?

Any help is appreciated here.

copy everything if you have the space

otherwise you can exclude nand.bin, which is not needed unless you try to downgrade via gw (but keep the file somewhere safe)

I copied all the SAV files but I can't access my old save files.
Do I need to do anything else?

I didn't copy the "Nintendo 3DS" folder, in case that could mess up with the installation of the emunand, could that have something to do with the problem?

you're suppose to copy the Nintendo 3DS folder, probably the most important folder to copy back as it contains everything emunand needs lol

Ok thanks, will do that. :D

It seems most of them are intact, but one single specific game, Fantasy Life, which I had over 30 hours and was the reason to update emunand after all, got "erased".

Even after using the backup I had, it shows as it doesn't have my previous save available.
I tried to access it before copying the 3ds folder, could it have erased or made any permanent changes to the game?
How can I inject my save game for this specific game?

savedatafiler may help you. Look up on the guides on this forum.
I managed to make it work.
I deleted the entire Nintendo 3ds folder and replaced it with my backed up one I had.

I'm just kinda scared because the one I deleted had a size of 60mb while my previous one had 10mb.
Could I have disposed of any essential file that the emunand would need?

Really depends if you installed a cia file or something before restoring your previous backup. Was your backup from right before making emunand, or did you have that backup from a while ago?

Yes, I made it moments before making emunand, didn't really have any cia installed, only save data from games.

Then it should be fine, don't worry about it :yaysp:

Edit: Since it's your first time using emunand, I suggest you unlink your nands. If you don't, you could accidently format your emunand stuff (mostly just cias, but .3ds saves will be fine) if you go to Data Management while in sysnand. All you gotta do is eject your sd card, turn on your 3ds, go to system settings-> other settings-> format system. Let it do its thing then insert your sd card when you are in the sysnand home menu again.

Is that all I have to do?
I'm aware that I can't acess data management on sysnand, but the concept of unlinking is strange to me, I've heard it before on this forum but didn't really know what is the purpose of it.

So if I do this formatting, the emunand will be safe?
Will I lose anything by doing so? Will I need to repeat the ds exploit to activate the gateway?

Other than that, everything worked fine, and after hours and hours of searching all over the place I finally made everything worked, just patched my first dlc and my saves are intact.
It seems I survived all this and gained a bit of experience on how to mess with my gateway. :creep:

Yes, that's all it takes to unlink. You will lose the ds exploit but all you have to do is install it again with the blue card, easy. Although, if you have any cias you play on sysnand, then they will obviously be lost, but since you have emunand they would be playable in emunand.
