Hacking Ripping my hair out w/ sky3ds

I literally just got my sky 3DS today and I'm already encountering problems.

Originally, I had a 32 gb micro sd card in my 3ds with about 10 full digital copy games on it. As this is the biggest micro sd card that I own, I decided that I should use this to put roms on w/ the sky3ds. I delete literally everything off of my 32gb SD card, formatted it w/ the disk reader, however whenever I try to write any games it says "Not enough free space to add image"

I've also noticed that it says there's -2648Mb available in the disk writer. The SD card is 32 gb...

It's also a sandisk card - does this make a difference? Please don't tell me that Sandisk micro sd cards aren't compatible w/ the sky3ds after I've just deleted over 20gb of games off it.....

How long should it take for your computer to format a mirco sd card?

I'm so f*cking angry right now.. This piece of sh*t sky3ds tool has broken my 32gb sd card..

I formatted it using the diskreader and now whenever I try to use it it claims there's no space left.

It's definitely the card.

I just reformatted my Samsung 4gb card and that works perfectly, however when I do the exact same thing for the Sandisk file it says that it has no space left when it is in fact empty.

install gparted or mini tools partition magic or some hdd management software to see full usb device, try to delete and reforma it

I bought it from amazon, the packaging was legit.

Downloaded this, when I ran it it didn't give me any options to open my microsd card?

Now it won't read.. ugh it's one thing after the other. Totally wish I hadn't even bothered with sky3ds

If your MicroSD card isn't detected properly, it, of course, cannot format the card. Try another USB reader, and if that doesn't work, try G-Parted. Many times, a live linux environment is able to interface with and recover a storage device where all other OSes fail.

It's strange though, the computer recognises the reader but refuses to acknowledge the existence of my SD card, yet when I use the diskwriter it loads roms onto the sd card fine, despite it not being seen in my computer settings.

So you got it working then. And it's not Sky3DS's fault or even DiskWriter's fault. Good. But you should know that there have been people that fucked up their expensive microSD cards by using a shitty Chinese no-name $2 reader. You should never skimp out on the reader.

Your USB reader seems to be broken. I've had 6 of these things dying like this, they stop reading certain SD cards then it won't read/write at all.
Most of times the microSD itself survived fine.

Also, about amazon and other big stores getting fake cards among genuine shipments:

I had no idea. I was quite lucky. Years ago I used to have an R4 for my DSi and I was just using the SD card reader I got with that.

I also presume the sandisk msd card is a fake, since it doesn't have a bump on the back and the greyness on it looks very pixel-like and discoloured.

Despite this, though, I looked at the card's partitions and it claimed that there was over 20gb worth of "unallocated" data on the card.. Not really sure what this means..
May just cave in and buy a completely new legit reader + sd card (and another one, since I don't have one with large capacity for my n3ds anymore...)

Argh. It's starting to turn into pot luck whether you get a legitimate msd card or not... How would you advise I go about obtaining a real one?

It's simple. Buy it from a real, physical store. There are a lot less chances of getting a fake one this way. Preferably from a local store that deals with IT parts and has a lot of traffic (new shipments coming in) on a regular basis. Legit stores have legit suppliers. Sure, there is the occasional crooked employee that swaps the real ones with fakes, but that's very very rare. Your chances are 3000% higher to get a fake one if you order online from some shady dude.

True true, but buying in store is so expensive! I guess that's the consequence I'll have to deal with if I want to ensure a working sdcard..
