Leave all your feels at the door. I have them, too. But this discusion is about your opinion, whether you think Nintendo will make a profit again or if you think they will contact Nye to fall. I think Iwata was a great president, but the products didn't seem to do well. Maybe the next president will make a console that sells well.

Nintendo's net value probably grew from 2002 to 2015. While the dropoff from wii/ds to wiiu/3ds was harsh, it doesn't even come close to nullifying the gains of that remarkable era.

So his net performance was positive.

I don't think anyone can say for sure until some time has passed. It's pretty hard to say just how much Iwata did (or didn't) do to get Nintendo as trainwrecked as they are now. I imagine it wasn't his fault overall though since he did good by Nintendo in the beginning (or didn't, really what does the president of a company even do besides look important?)

Alright, I get what youre going for here dude, I really do, but check the way you word things next time. Im gonna fix your title for you as you requested, and hopefully you can get a slight discussion going since I know thats what youre going for.

Everybody chill out, its a simple discussion that was worded improperly, there's no need to martyr him.

First thing I can see is that Nintendo just lost his meme man.

No one will hold that banana and say "please understand" to us, even if they do, it will not be the same.

What if we can get Reggie to do it!

Okay but honestly i think short term devolpment and stuff might go a little slower but long term nobody'll even care

It will affect Nintendo's public image, as Iwata liked to be the face of Nintendo and talk directly to the consumers via Nintendo Direct and similar. As for the company internally, I doubt it will be that different due to how Nintendo works, but I still hope they get someone decent as the new president, someone who has that passion, as I imagine quite a few people at Nintendo could use a bit of inspiration right now. Even with how driven Japanese society can be, they're still people and it seemed like quite a few people really liked Iwata there.

We can't really tell what would have happened and what is now going to happen. We can only speculate and we don't have much information to speculate on for the time being. Perhaps in time we'll hear interviews from Nintendo staff sharing their views on how the company was affected.

you listening new guy to be ceo?!

the NX MUST HAVE

no region codes
good 3rd party support from the get go
a solid online system
BEEFY hardware
NO gimmicks
no motion controls
no tablet controllers
I'd say you're probably going to get two or three of those things if you're lucky. Third party support is dependent on the hardware being decent and it selling well. No gimmicks includes no motion controls/tablet. Also, was it even confirmed the NX is a WiiU followup console?

As for the topic though, does anyone know how much input Iwata truly had on things? Since he did so many PR things as well (nintendo directs), I can't help but wonder if he wasn't at least partially a figurehead.

I think Nintendo will not be the same.
It will lose direction at least for some time.
Even if business were not spectacular lately, Iwata was the moving force setting the company back into the right course.
I think it is the worst time possible for Nintendo to lose such a key person.
Nintendo relation with fans was... mostly Iwata. He changed the image of a very closed company.
I don't know what will happen in the long term, but I think that in the short term things may be unstable and grim.

As if he was responsible for all the bad ways Nintendo acted.

Not enough console power has been a problem since the SNES. The only exception was the GameCube and people didn't give a shit about it. Then they polish it a little and release gimmick controls and, what happens? BOOM! Most successful Nintendo console ever. Same thing with the Nintendo DS, despite being obsolete long before its release.
This gen has been quite obvious about gimmicks: 3D didn't catch up and the Wii U second screen either. This is the only thing that will eventually force the company to another direction, not Iwata's death.

As for region locking, nobody here seems to understand the advantages of it, economically-wise. There aren't enough pros to remove something that helps the company determine sales, especially if I can only think about one game on 3DS that wasn't released outside Japan that I could play without feeling too much confused.

As for the online system, we got a HUGE improvement from the old Nintendo WFC thanks to updates that ban cheats and bug-fixes. We need leaderboards, but how is Iwata responsible for them? Same with 3rd party support. How was Iwata's problem if EA snobs Nintendo consoles when it comes to FIFA?

Dunno but Nintendo Directs are going to change from having that Iwatarism charm.

no tablet controllers

This would be ideal for the next Nintendo home console to have.

yes reggie confirmed it

there are NO advantages of it. having a game released to all regions at the same time IS an advantage not the other way around.

And if it's never released in EU/US then gamers of these regions can import from Japan and play it. Now with the Wii U you can't really do that, can you?
