Hacking I am confused by IOS's

I have a bunch installed.
I have never really understood anything about them and I have only installed the ones that were recommended to me previously while trying to get certain games to work.
A lot of them are probably old and outdated.
I installed them all with Multi-mod manager.

Is there anybody here that can tell me how to get the most up to date IOS's that will make every wii game work with all accessories?

If your games work, then you don't have to worry about updating.

I'd link you to a guide, but all the ones I know of are either full of nonsense, or are too technical for most to understand.

An IOS is firmware. It has all the drivers, and interacts with the hardware. Games, channels, and even the System Menu run on them. Think of it like how your current browser is running under an operating system (probably Windows). While an OS isn't firmware, it's the same concept. Most Wii titles can't run without an IOS. There are a few exceptions (most notably BootMii), but that's not important for this discussion.

Most systems only have one firmware. This is where the Wii is (mostly) unique. As new titles are released, updates normally have to be made to firmware to support them or increase performance. With a system like the Xbox, developers would have to make sure that any changes to the firmware would have zero affect on all titles released prior. The Wii is different. If an existing IOS didn't work, then all they had to do was create a new one and have the game use that IOS instead. There is no chance of messing up compatibility with older titles. When the Wii was first developed, there was only one IOS. New ones have been created as-needed. It's clever/lazy, depending on how you look at it.

if you have the recommended setup (cIOS249 = base 56, cIOS250 = base 57) then 250 should work. Some guides also tell you to install cIOS251 = base 58, I'm not sure if that one is ever actually required for anything and ModMii doesn't install it by default, but if you have it and 250 doesn't work, try it. This is the setup that pretty much everyone uses nowadays. 249 for the vast majority of games, and 250 for the few problem games (like games that use USB devices like a mic or instruments for Rock Band)

The easiest way to go about updating your cIOS and such (unless you are experienced with Wii hacking) is to just re-hack your Wii with ModMii. It will update your HBC, USB loader and cIOS. Updating isn't normally needed to make new games work but if your cIOS or USB loader is very old it might be needed.
However, it's a good idea to keep them updated anyway.

The few games that use IOS58 (which all look terrible to me) need it. I don't think they get full support anyway.

Let me go into what a cIOS is, since I didn't address that. A cIOS, or "custom IOS", is a modified version of an official IOS released by Nintendo. What it can do varies by how it's modified. People will often say something to the effect of "IOS249[56] d2x v8". That can be very confusing if you don't know what it means.

249 represents the directory, or "slot" which it is installed to. In order to avoid messing with an official Nintendo IOS, they contents of it is copied into another directory on the NAND (designated by a number/slot), usually over 200.

The [56] part represents the base IOS. It designates that it is a modified version of IOS56.

Finally, d2x v8 is the version. There have been several "brands" of cIOS's released over the years, namely hermes, Waninkoko, and d2x. They have varying HDD and game compatibility. The Waninkoko versions have been entirely replaced by d2x (both of which have always been installed in slots 245-251), and the hermes versions (generally slots 202, 222, 223, and 224) are only installed for compatibility for really old hard drives. They are almost never used.

so I have a mic from guitar hero world tour for Xbox 360 that I am using plugged into port 1.

Guitar hero world tour will recognize the mic is plugged in with ios 249 but doesn't hear anything.
ios 250 just says that nothing is connected.

Def jam Rap star is the complete opposite
ios 249 says nothing is connected
while ios 250 will recognize the mic is plugged in but doesn't hear anything.

Could it be that the microphone is the culprit? A google search tells me that the xbox360 guitar hero mic should work on the wii.

By port 1, I hope you mean the port farther from the edge. If not, that's your problem. If you're using the right port, try cIOS224.

Yes that is exactly what one I am using. I tried IOS 224 which shows as IOS224-mload in cfg usb loader and I get the same result as using ios 250.

i hacked my wii and installed usb uploader, cfg uploader ,and wii flow. i can play all of my backups just fine except WarioWars and Mario Kart. When I push to play it returns me back to the Main system screen. But thats the only games it does it on. Not sure how to do a system check i'm really new to this. Did I not do something right when I set it up. I followed techman on youtubes tutorial. this address:

Right now all of my games run off of a 16gb flashdrive my harddrive arrives next week and i want to convert over. Can I do this and not lose my games. I have some I downloaded but when i put them on a different usb because the other one is full they want show up at all in any of the uploaders. My system is 4.1U. I thought the games were bad copies at first so I borrowed my friends copy and same issue still returns to main system screen. Please Help.

First off, stay away from Failtube. Most everything there is recycled versions of guides, where the author didn't actually know what he was doing.
