Upcoming job interview, some questions

Hello there, I have an upcoming job interview on Monday, which I applied for yesterday without realizing that my sister's wedding is at the end of this month. If I do get the job, do you think they will give me time off for the wedding? I'm pretty sure that's a no-no because I'll be new on board and it ruins my reputation. This is whats concerning me; it would be the first job I ever have had.

Also, I got a job offer from a well professional company; providing me with a similar position in the job discussed above. I have an interview for that on Monday, too; but this job is offering me more salary than the other positions in the other job. This job is an hour away via transit. Is it worth it if I take the job?

Please give me honest opinions, I'm basically shitting myself like the day I found out x is a man who lied here.

I would say just be straight up and honest. Employers like that and it really makes you look good. Tell the person your Sister is having her wedding at certain dates, apologize and say its really important to go (I at least hope so).

I really don't know if they will give you the wedding day off. But, be honest about it.

Some industries or companies will ask during your interview if there are any days in the near future you know you will need off, though that doesn't mean they will necessarily honor them.

As RevPokemon said you can request to start after her wedding. You can also ask if there's any possibility you could have that day off, however I wouldn't ask both questions, I'd limit it to one or the other personally. The other thing to consider, though, do you know for sure that you'd be working Mondays at either/both of them?

As far as one job over the other, you have to do a little math and a little consideration into it. Is the difference in pay going to cover your fares for public transit or your own cost of commute, plus the tighter schedule it'll put you in? If it's a fair amount more money, I'd absolutely take it. Do you have a feeling you'd perform better for one company or the other, and have a better chance of keeping a job with them as time goes on? If you think you can hold yourself to the level of professionalism that the companies expect, I'd likely go for the nicer one with more pay.

At the same time, though, consider this as well. Very often does it take a few days to a week or two to hear back from a company as they usually want to wait for a drug test and background check to come back clean before extending you an offer of employment. If you hear back from one but not the other, you can ask if they will allow you a few days to consider as you are awaiting an offer from another potential employer as well. You might not have to decide on the spot.

At finally, even if things don't work out as planned, it's not the end of the world. You're about 16, right? Man if I was getting interviews at that age, I wouldn't even know what to do with myself. I didn't get my first job until I was 18, I think my first interview I was 17 and the lady basically blew me off. Long story short, you've got time yet, but no matter what the important thing is to be professional and mature about everything. But in any case, good luck man. I know I give you a hard time sometimes but I'm always around if you wanna bounce a few questions off of me.

That's what I am feeling right now, too. There's a lot more functions before the wedding as well. The day before the wedding is a wedding-compulsory function, two days after the wedding is the party reception, etc.

Thanks for those points! I'll think that over, and talk about it.

You just made me realize something. I'm fifteen at the moment, turning sixteen in the month of October; and I will be a hell lot of busy with my life when school starts. I got heavier courses the beginning the semester, and I'm part of this program where I go to college for one week in the afternoon, and a week in a work place in the afternoon too.

Now I think I want to chicken out of this for some reason because I think I'm adding too much to my plate. I'll have to plan and think something out soon.
