In some parallel alternative reality, Link is a mute plumber in Hyrule who saves Princess Zelda from the clutches of Koopa king Ganon while Mario is a master swordsman and bearer of the Mushroom of Courage and allies with Princess Peach to defeat king Bowser who stole the Mushroom of Power.

i don't understand why nintendo didn't release the n3ds xl with faceplates too...

My guess is that the N3DS XL is used for their limited edition consoles. It wouldn't be so limited edition if it had replaceable faceplates. Anyway that's the only reason i can think of.

good thought... never would think about that
the reason i thought was because the cost to manufacter\ship\etc, and the estimate profits... they would have to make the price of the plates higher.. but at same time if its a lot more pricey barely anyone will get them...
also another guess is the smaller 3ds is more suitable for kids while the 3ds xl is for "grown ups" the later is not the best audience for this type of accessories
at least i buy a console to play it and barely care how it looks like.. i like it to have a theme or too look pretty but i ain't changing skins or buying stuff...

magikarp being the best console plate

The O3DS was black with gold stencil. They do gold because it dates back to the NES game carts which were also always in gold.
That's slightly better, but I didn't like the design of it much.
They probably use gold because it's the color of the triforce. But I still think link's green tunic is more iconic and it would be a much better looking color.

and less prone to scratching (or at least it wouldn't look like crap if it did get scratched), i think the MM n3DS XL will deal with scratches better than the ALBW o3DS XL, that thing is pretty poor quality for scratches, even the smallest of surface scratches and its right through the paint

i think the darker gold on the MM n3DS is actually ok, similar to the n64 MM cart

The N64 MM cart is actually colored plastic :)
