Kensuke Tanabe, the producer of the Metroid Prime series, spoke with IGN about his desire to make a new Metroid Prime. He says that at the end of Prime 3 there is a mystery gunship chasing after Samus that resembles the ship of Sylux from Metroid Prime Hunters. He confirms that the ship indeed belongs to Sylux and says there is an untold story between Samus and Sylux that he wants to tell in a sequel to Metroid Prime 3.

I said this at the beginning, but I'm not involved in the 2D Metroid games that [Yoshio] Sakamoto works on. I still feel like there's a little more work left for me to do in the Metroid Prime series. I can't say when, but I want to make another one.

He's [Sylux] actually chasing after Samus, and that's where that game ends. There's still more I want to build around the story of Sylux and Samus. There's something going on between them. I want to make a game that touches upon [it].

I'm also thinking that, in that eventual game between Sylux and Samus that might get made, that I want to involve the [Galactic] Federation as well. So it would be a good idea to release a game like Federation Forces to flesh out its role in the galaxy before moving on to that.

Nintendo's strategy: stop making great Nintendo games, give series away to underwhelming thirdparties to fuck around with

mmmm it's Silent Hill all over again. Japanese developers forget how they became great in the first place.

They probably tried to pay to have the F-zero name stamped on that wipeout looking game too but they refused lol

To be fair, I think IGN just asked Tanabe's comment because of the reaction on this spin-off. Of course he wants to make another Prime game (it's been years, and he obviously isn't blind to what gamers want). But since the franchise is owned by nintendo, it's not like his opinion really makes a difference. It's like asking the Rare guys if they want to make another Donkey Kong game...they can have their opinions all they want, but it isn't going to happen.

any $ nintendo told him to say this after the shit storm
Huh? I would think nintendo would rather pay the guy to shut up. He's basically saying "look, guys...you can't blame me for this new "metroid prime" game as I have nothing to do with it. I certainly want to make a true sequel, but nintendo doesn't want me to".

I don't think that was the original intention. Sylux had nothing to do with the Metroid Prime series, and it made much more sense for the ship to belong to Dark Samus. They even used the same gradients from her suit to make it.
Well Sylux is a Metroid Prime character, so I fail to see why he gas nothing to do with Metroid Prime.

He's a Prime Hunters character. That was a spin-off of the Prime series, with no actual relation to the trilogy's plot. The previous two games had also ended with hints of Dark Samus coming to life, so it fits a pattern.

Anyway, regardless of what the original intention was, OFFICIALLY it is now Sylux's ship at the end.

Gotta love how canon anything works. Knowing how to retcon properly can make a series live on forever. I'm pretty much positive that you're spot on about the original intent for that ship, but hey, what the creator says goes, so I guess Dark Samus can screw off.

Prime 3 was supposed to end the phazon trilogy, including Dark Samus, hence why the ship at the end can't belong to her. Prime Hunters has a storyline between Prime 1 and Prime 2, hence why it belongs to the Prime series, even though it doesn't relate to phazon.

I believe the actual Easter egg wasn't Dark Samus's ship, but rather Sylux tracking samus due to his grudge against the Galactic Federation.
I'd much rather the metroid games start to be about all the other bounty hunters.
Here is Sylux's info page for those who haven't played Prime Hunters, and his ship looks exactly like the one seen in MP3 end credits.

We actually had this argument back in 2013. Just wanted to say

I FUCKIN CALLED IT :hrth:B-):hrth:

We also had an argument about spoilers or something, and then this guy was just like "This is how the game ends lol," so that also mad eme laugh a bit.

Dark Samus was supposed to be destroyed in Prime 2 as well.

The generally accepted belief (before a few days ago) is that they actually had no plans to do a sequel, and the Prime 3 ending was basically the same way they ended the original Prime game: With a reference to Dark Samus that would never actually be addressed, since no sequel was planned.

I FUCKIN PARROTED WHAT OTHERS SAID, BUT WANT TO PRETEND THAT I ACTUALLY CAME UP WITH A THEORY MYSELF :hrth:B-):hrth:
Fixed that for you. :P

Have you beaten the game? You destroy her, then (if you get 100%), you see her come back to life.
That's precisely why you're wrong. She isn't destroyed in Prime 2 because she resurrects herself. In Prime 1 she is created and in Prime 3 she is permanently destroyed along with the source of phazon ( which she is built from) hence why she won't come back.

She was believed to be destroyed in Prime 2, unless you 100% it (or look on Youtube). I believe (as does most of the community) that it was a "Or was she?" moment from Retro Studios. It gave them an opportunity to bring her back (with a new reason they could come up with later, just like they did in Prime 3), and just a cool ending. I also don't think they are just so lazy that they re-used the gradient and patterns from her suit on the ship for no other reason.

As I've stated before, the original intent doesn't really matter anymore. Developers change their mind on how a sequel will play out all the time, and the end decision is all that matters.
