I own both, and the original one looks nicer and the screen is real nice but unless you have them side by side you won't complain about the slims LCD screen.

Hello,

Even though I'm a little late with replying. I also own both. The Oled Screen is more vibrant in colors. I always prefer the slim version because it just feels better on the hands. Lighter and the edges are more curved vs the Original which has sharper edges. That's great for extended periods of gameplay with the vita. Everybody opinion would be diff on the take. If you can get a feel of both and see for yourself. The Slim IPS screen is still great looking comparing to the OLED. Slim has a more Warmer/natural Color to the overall display. which I prefer. THis is just my take on this subject.

The slim screen is absolute crap. Slim is better in terms of feel/design. But it's not worth it.

Mech is wrong about having them side by side. The slim screen is noticeably iffy even if you don't have an OLED Vita to compare it to. In fact all you really need to notice that something is wrong with the slim is to own other devices/monitors. Maybe if you've never seen a screen in 15 years, then the slim Vita might seem awesome.

Anyway I don't think hand size matters much since the dimensions of the two vitas are the same. The slim is obviously slimmer. It's also lighter. The rear touchpad has been regressed on the slim but I found it to be a negligible difference.

While OLED screens do provide better contrast, my experience has been that every single OLED screen in any of my electronics eventually had burn in problems.

Mind that I havent used an old vita model, but I like the slim's LCD. Bright and natural.

My advise is that if you havent seen the old vita's screen, go for the new vita. You wont even be able to notice anything and the gaming experience would be the same.

Kind of a stretch to say you don't be able to notice anything.

If you have a smartphone, tablet, 3DS, DS Lite or later, or PSP 3000 or Go, then its easy to notice the difference in the slim Vita screen. You could just visit the same website on two devices to notice the difference. In fact you don't even need to do this because the slim Vita screen is SO yellow that you start to pick up on it eventually.

But then again who knows, maybe we're all just genetically different. It's so annoying talking about these screen differences. What's crazy though is I heard someone criticize the wiiu gamepad for not displaying the color red correctly. Are you kidding me?? How can that possibly be an issue while slim vitas are being gobbled up even though it barely displays any color correctly let alone blue / teal / any shade of blue / skintones.

Also, anyone remember this?

When this came out everyone was like haha yeah bloom sucks, whatever happened to color, games are so brown now.
Then slim Vita came out and now someone is stupid for liking color and "doesn't get it"
Colorful screens cause headaches, duh!

Comparing screens between completely different devices would be kind of strange, due to colour impression not being the only parameter (e.g. screen size and resolution spring to mind).

What I am saying is that you wont be able to notice the difference if you dont even have an old vita to make a proper comparison, plus games are still delivering the same content regardless of the console iteration.

Besides, the slim's LCD display ensures you get more time playing inter-charging sessions.

You have it the other way around
Oled screens are not displaying colors correctly due to over saturation while lcd's are

If you're concerned with it just visit FNAC, Carrefour, Auchan, etc as one of these are bound to have a Kiosk Vita for customers to try out. GAME stores in UK have Vita's out all the time.

And while at it, you'll get to see how the picture quality is too, whether you like it or not.

Both have their ups and downs. The old one has an OLED display, but the Slim feels better in the hands. Honestly, because I didn't have both at the same time, the Slim's screen wasn't that big of a downgrade. The colors are just slightly washed out compared to the old.

EDIT: I forgot to mention! My Vita Slim came with 3.15, incase you're interested in eCFW (New of course.) I was dumb enough to update to 3.52 because I wanted to use the store, before I discovered I could have just used my PS3. -.- I really hope a downgrade method gets discovered, even if it's a hardware method like the PS3 currently is. I'm gonna refrain from updating at this point.

I would buy the slim PS Vita. I have the original vita (3g launch model) with the OLED screen and I am not sure how much longer the screen will last before the OLED starts to deteriorate and lose color. LCD's do not have this problem usually.

I have the original but much prefer the Slim. I like keeping things for a LONG time without issues and the OLED screen is not viable, longer-term. Plus I tend to find typical OLED screens unnaturally over-saturated. OLED screen gave sony Wow Points in-store (it impresses easily, especially under typical store lighting). But nothing more. Not only does the regular LCD save Sony money, I actually prefer it. The other refinements are icing on the proverbial cake.
