When I turn the wifi on on my new 3ds xl in emuNAND, it also turns it on in sysNAND. Does this mean that my sysNAND and emuNAND are linked together?

I wouldn't think so.... Its like on my O3DS. When I backup my NAND, disable WiFi and restore my NAND - the WiFi stays disabled. I think the "WiFi Switch Config" is stored on the SoC or WiFi module, maybe? I dunno. I don't know how it works, to be honest.

its a hardware thing

think of it like the volume slider
if you slid the volume slider to say, 80% in emunand, thats what its gonna be in sysnand unless you slide it again

The N3DS has no wifiswitch though.
So has to be software. And probably affected by a linked sys and emunand

Here is what you have to do.

Boot in sysNAND. Go to Wifi Settings. Make 3 connections. Make the SSID just random letters. Mine are "1. yffeb 2. pfghf 3. 8iefgb"
Now boot into emuNAND. Make your legit connection. This will keep the sysNAND WiFi SSIDs, and the emuNAND will also be static and different to sysNAND.

Well, believe it or not, even the O3DS WiFi state can be changed via Software... The hardware switch on the O3DS is nothing more than a button that interfaces with the software. The software then stores that state in either the SoC or Wireless Adapter - it can't be in NAND as the state is saved even when I restore a backup.

op hasn't specified if he's on a O3DS or N3DS

i have both. my O3DS has unlinked NANDs but the wi-fi on/off setting stays across them

i can't confirm for N3DS cos my NANDs are linked on that

It's probably saved in the wifi chip itself, so when you toggle wifi, either by button or in the home menu, a disable command is sent to the wifi chip, which remembers that setting and stays disabled until it's toggled again (or you replace the wifi chip :P)

Yes, that's what I was trying to say. That is the most logical reason/explanation for it :)

Add 3 dummy connections to sysNAND.

Of course, the only way to know for sure would be to try swapping out the wifi module :P
