The Basic 8GB edition of Wii U is officially being discontinued in Japan as Nintendo has figured out that 8GB is just too little of storage space and so the one they'll have in stock will be the 32GB (admittedly not a lot either but better than 8GB).

Not to mention an external usb device becomes a pain in the ass if you have a GameCube adapter (or two), want to charge your WUPCs, and I haven't seen any USB drives with a remote. :)

Also didn't the wiiu have issues with using USB HDDs?

The only issue was the need of a Y-cable to plug in the two back USB ports, or else your HDD will keep failing because one port´s power supply won´t be enough.

I admit that there was an HDD that didn´t work even with the Y-cable (a Sony one), but besides that, I didn´t have much problems with it and my games collection is full digital.

True. With two back ports being used for an HDD and one of the front being used for the network adapter, a GC adapter is really a luxury in which I can´t waste a port :P

Honestly, I think they're being smart to discontinue the 8gb version, even though you can add seemly unlimited space to the console through external storage, with how many people are going with digital only copies, many people would fill that up in no time, not to mention DLC etc etc. Although if you're strictly using disc based games and could care less about DLC or any of that, then 8gb would be fine, but I feel like there's not enough of a market for it honestly.

I work at staples and you want to know what the smallest size sd card and usb flash drive we offer is? If you guessed 8gb, you are correct! Its a sign of the times, 8gb doesn't cut it for most people....

To tell you the truth, I am begging at least a 128GB version comes out so I can throw away my 8GB Wii U and buy something that isn't a hassle to use (and the 128GB should come with USB ports with decent power!)....
Wait, why would I buy a Wii U... again?!

I 128gb unit would be much better :). I have the 32gb retail unit, because its the largest available, I would've gone bigger if possible :P
