Hello everyone. Let me start off by saying I just signed up for this website, so please excuse me if this is the wrong section to post this. I am sorry in advance if it is!

As the title says, I am having some problems with a recently purchased Gateway 3DS flashcart. I purchased it used from someone on Reddit, so I have no choice to return it to the retailer for a possible replacement. I am at least wanting to try to fix the issue before I ask the guy I bought it from for a refund, because I feel this can be fixed. Please read below to understand what I am talking about.

The main problem I am having is when I put a .3ds rom file of a game onto my microSD Card and put the card into the Gateway Card, it recognized that the game is there when I press select to see a list of all the games on the microSD card. But when I select the game and try to open it, it gives me the error message "The game cart was removed." I google'd this issue, and I see other people are having it too. Many people are saying it has something to do with SPI, so I ran the diagnostic option on Gateway and sure enough, "SPI Test" and SPI Read Test" both failed. I tried a lot of things to fix it. I tried sticking a small piece of paper in-between the microSD card to push down on it; didn't work. I tried a different SD card reader; didn't work either. I don't have another microSD card to test with, but if I did I would have tried that too. I don't really know what else to try to fix this.

Oh, and here's the weird thing. The very first game I downloaded was Pokemon Omega Ruby and it runs perfectly fine, granted I haven't actually played the game for more than 5 minutes yet. It doesn't have the "The game cart was removed" error at all. This really confuses me, considering the SPI tests are failing. I am hoping this can somehow be fixed, seeing that one game runs fine but all others don't. Any help will be appreciated. If there's some sort of information that I haven't already provided that is necessary to find out what the issue is here, please ask and I will happily provide what I can. I really want to fix this issue. It took two weeks for me to receive this flashcart and I would much rather avoid having to wait that long again to get a new one. Thanks in advance!

**Quick Edit**

I forgot to mention, the Gateway Launcher.dat version I am using is the latest version, which is 3.2.1 Public Beta. I have considered trying a lower non-beta version, but I figured I'd ask here first before doing anything else.

Hi there. I used to have the exact same problem with my Gateway. I solved it by slipping 5 small pieces of paper in the area below the microsd card slot. I took a picture to illustrate.

Didn't seem to work. :c

I'm still getting the "The Game Card was removed."

I really don't understand how one game (Pokemon Omega Ruby) can work but multiple others don't work at all.

The SPI error is related to the save chip which the Pokemon games don't use since they're card2 so that's why OR works. It's a hardware problem with the cart and some people have said it's because the chip is not making proper contact with the board. As a workaround you could convert your games to card2 or CIA.
I have heard that putting something in front of the chip to apply more pressure on it while it's in the slot can help (like tape) however I'm not sure this won't just make things worse in the long run.

Ah, well that would explain it.

If I convert the games to card2 or CIA, would there really be any reason at all to keep the Gateway? The only reason I really got the Gateway was to run ROM files easily, but seeing that CIA files can be ran with a CFW, Gateway would not be needed, correct?

Sorry if I'm wrong, I'm extremely new to the 3DS modding scene.

You still need to be in gateway mode to play cias, and you need the red card to boot in gateway mode. And the cfw is not compatible with a lot of recent games.

Ahh, I understand now. Thank you very much!

I think what I'm going to do is try to fix this save chip issue by sticking some paper on top of it to apply pressure as "The Real Jdbye" said, and if that doesn't work after a while I'll just use CIA's.

Thanks for all the help guys. Very much appreciated.

Well card2 games still run on the gw cart. They just save differently. If you prefer to play games off the cart that might be the best solution. Not sure if all games will work that way but it seems like they do.
What exactly do you mean by "DS Profile?"

Sorry, I am new to this. Excuse my noob self.
Hold R when you launch the exploit by whatever method you use. I don't think it will help but it's worth a shot.

Alright so I shoved a ton of paper on top of the save chip and taped it all up the best I could and it didn't seem to fix it. I guess I'm going to give up on that and run card2 or CIA files. Better than nothing.

Thank you very much for the information.

I've saw a similar case. It may help him :)

Will try this now.

Just finished the update. Is the screen supposed to go black after it finishes? I don't know how to get off the black screen other than powering the console off and back on.

I don't think you can install cia files due to the fact that all the cia installer programs are card 1 games and can not be converted to card 2 so you're stuck just having card 2 retail games

Good to know there is a solution. Been a while sincei have addressed this problem and the last time I looked there was no solution

I just tried snailface's card1to2 program and it didn't seem to work.

I have no clue how to edit the hex to do it manually. I'm the biggest noob ever with this stuff.
