I know there is a Wiki about this. But I thought this would be more n00b-friendly :D This thread is like a copycat of the "List of all emulators for DS", but with 3DS emulators instead.

There are many different factors that will depend on how the emulator will perform, like if you use an ordinary 3DS or N3DS, if you use .3DSX, .CIA or something else. The best performance for emulators right now is to use a N3DS and .3DSX.

There are four emulators that needs to be mentioned special because they are so great! (on the N3DS at least).

- BlargSnes
- FCEUMM3DS
- Handy 3DS
- Gameyob 3DS

You, Tempers, will have to help me though as I dont know everything =)

Computers:

- 3dsspectrum

Game Consoles:

- blargSnes

- FCEUMM3DS
- 3DNES

- Nestopia3DS
Handheld Game Consoles:

- Handy 3DS

- 3DSGBA

- CitrAGB

- Gameyob 3DS

- Neopop 3DS

- r3Ddragon

Arcade:

- Phoenix Arcade Emulator

I fixed all links so they should be correct now!

I think like Rinnegatamante. Neither this list or the Wiki list will be complete. (I should perhaps change the topic name?) So I guess this thread will focus on the more popular platforms. On the Wiki page there are for example 5 different Chip8 emulators for the 3DS. These emulators are probably great and all, but I have never seen a discussion thread on gbatemp about Chip8 emulators. So I chose to exclude them. But if someone feels an great emulator is missing: enlighten me and I will update the list! =)

Chip-8 shouldn't count as an emulator at all. Chip-8 is an interpreted programming language that runs on a virtual machine. You could never walk into a store and buy a Chip-8, but you could run Chip-8 on something else.

"Emulating" doesn't have to be a game console. It means reproducing the functions or action of something, software or hardware.

So my Lua interpreter should be called Lua emulator? Interpreter != Emulator.

Chip8 is sort of an exception to the rule: when you program an interpreter for it, it has its own registers, address space, stack, and drawing instructions, like a real computer/console would. Does Lua require those things as well?

Hi thanks for your list! It seems the colours you chose didn't go well on our dark theme, so I've just gone ahead and removed all colour styles (they looked like default colours anyway, but forcing them to a "light scheme" breaks them on dark while they SEEM to work on light) that way everything will work on both themes.

Cheers!

I know most of you are busy with Pasta Cfw :) And that we are able to play nes, gb, gbc & a couple of gba games with pasta. But here are some arguments why this kind of emulators is still useful:

- GBA library are only 10 games in virtual console and Pasta. There are more on gb, gbc & nes. But for a retro gamer there are MANY great games missing in virtual console / pasta.
- There are no button mapping in virtual console.
Playing SMB and similar games in vc are awful.
- There are no screen options in vc.
- It's easier and faster to scroll through a game library of 100s of games within an emulator.
- A vc nes rom is like 4000-7000 kb. Standard nes roms are like 50-300 kb. Its The same size difference on the other consoles as well.
- There are many consoles that aren't in vc. Like snes, neo geo, genesis/megadrive etc..

So hopefully there will be more updates in this thread :)
