I just can't get over how awesome it would be if it was and if it had internal storage, wifi and 3ds compatibility as well as being standalone. It would be the most ultimate multimedia semi portable gaming machine ever.

Here's to hoping the NX is just that, an upgraded standalone gamepad machine and even if they made it with a 480p screen I would STILL be all over it. Just imagine if it had a cd drive in it too so you could just pop your wiiu discs in and play. OMG, life is cruel.

I wish the GamePad would have been completely optional as most of the time if possible I use the Wii U Pro Controller, for a much longer battery, light-weight and I do all my gaming on the TV.

Not to mention that the picture quality on the GamePad looks like crap in comparison to an HDTV.

What's the point though? Wouldn't that just be a gaming handheld? The Wii U is meant to be a home console with the gamepad as its controller

I agree with WiiCube that I just wish it wasn't necessary to use many features of the Wii U and more of an optional controller. i kind hate it and would prefer the pro controller under pretty much any circumstances

I use Netflix and YouTube apps on the Wii U and as such they limited to only use the GamePad which makes no sense as on 360/PS3 I'd just need the traditional controller and that's that. Forcing a fake-tablet for something so simple is annoying.

We shan't forget that System Settings require the GamePad to access it or you're screwed. Great going, Nintendo!

yeah honestly the system settings thing is what rubs me the wrong way the most

like damn did they ever consider how much they're restricting people with missing/broken gamepads even though from a technical POV nintendo has the ability to make the pro controllers + wii motes usable too

Yeah, I was thinking of getting Arkham City on Wii U, but learned the only controller to use is the gamepad. It felt like buying the console forced me to spend an extra $50 on the Wii U pro, such a thing should be included with the system. It would be better if more support for the GC controller was added.

I love the gamepad, it's a procontroller but with a touch screen in the middle which is great for typing, drawing and navigating menus.

I agree, and it sits really well in the hands. Lots of space for my big sausage hands :)
I got the official extended battery for it so I could play on it all day without having to recharge it.

Netflix lets you use a Wii Remote. It's actually slightly more intuitive than trying to use the GamePad in that God-forsaken mess of a UI... But it still requires the GamePad to be on, I believe :T

Way more people own a wiimote tho
Doesn't matter. That's part of the Wii generation and the Wii U Pro Controller as the name indicates, it's Wii U's traditional controller.

Also worth noting, most Wii owners left it in the dust and well, they didn't give two shits to get back to play on Nintendo but instead went with PlayStation/Xbox or tablets.

Most of the wiiu owners were part of the Wii gen and carried over the wii products they owned.

Most of the Wii U owners are fans and some kids because going by "most" Wii owners then the Wii U would have been a huge success and it wasn't.

Here's hoping if some dev makes a PC Wii U emulator that it makes the god damn GamePad obsolete from being used as it's pointless anyway, for a large chunk of the games that require it.
