Installed in sysnand? How?

Since devmenu only can be executed in emunand (its icon only appears when I go into gateway mode). How would I install it in sysnand?

With the last launcher update, hold "B" before loading emunand and it'll boot to sysnand instead (it'll even ask you a confirmation before booting to sysnand). There, you'll be able to load roms.

How do you install dev menu on sysnand? I believe thats what missing for me.

You don't install it, you use the .3ds version by loading it like a rom.

But as Kay|s7eR said, and for my situation included, we had to install dev menu 2x.cia otherwise devmenu keeps getting black screen if I use devmenu.3ds.

So devmenu icon appears on homescreen when I boot into GW mode. Besides this, I dont know how to install devmenu on sysnand after all.

Just use the 3ds version of bbm to install devmenu.

Just use the 3ds version of bbm to install devmenu.

Yes, it is already installed using bbm.

Here is the all fact:

I used bbm.3ds to run it and then install devmenu_2x.cia.

Now devmenu appears on home screen when in GW mode.

THIS particular devmenu runs perfectly on my n3ds LL and I used import option for mset jap.cia. Everything went fine.

but after turn off the system and on again, I go to sysnand correct? It is on 9.1J.

So no icon of devmenu is there, I go to settings/ds profile and exploi doesnt happen.

People here say to use devmenu .3ds. IT DOES NOT run. I get black screen.

That's why only using devmenu 2x.cia was the only way possible to at least make it run.

As other people here told you, you can install CIAs on SysNAND by booting into GateWay mode while pressing X (GateWay 3.2.1 only) and using BigBlueMenu.3ds on your GateWay red card to install DevMenu_2x.cia on your SysNAND, and then you can install mset_reg.cia using the DevMenu you just installed.

Edit: did you execute "NVRAM INSTALL" before doing all this?

That's what is missing! I didnt see this info before.

I will try it now.

I'm confused here. Once devmenu is installed in sysNAND, what is the benefit? Does it mean you could then install (retail) game .cias in sysNAND from the devmenu, without needing the GW cart at all?

i.e. you go to a friends house, install devmenu on their 3DS, then leave and they can use it to install .cias from the SD without needing a Gateway red cart or anything. Right?

as always, you can install basically anything to sysnand/emunand
as always, you will need gw/cfw to run any content that is pirated etc :)

Are you sure you are using the right version of devmenu.3ds ?

If it can help, here's the md5 of the working one : e65629fbe2ae8a419cf8624df78e78b2

For people who have problems to find it, search for this release : SDK.DevKit.Tools.3DSWare.3DS.INTERNAL-BigBlueBox

Once the archive is extracted, the file is named "DevMenu.csu" and is inside the "SDK-2.3.4" folder. Just rename the "DevMenu.csu" file to "DeMenu.3ds" and it should be okay.

Once again,

Using devmenu from SDK.DevKit.Tools.3DSWare.3DS.INTERNAL-BigBlueBox, which is the version 2.3.4 renaming .csu to .3ds correct? Yep, black screen!!!

I checked the md5checksum to match and it was e65629fbe2ae8a419cf8624df78e78b2

The only devmenu working is the devmenu 2x.cia (which from the pictures you see it installs devmenu on home screen when in gw mode) which I got the info around here.

But I start seriously to think that this exploit is not working on n3ds LL. :(

All I can ask is are you on sysNAND or emuNAND, because the mset will not work if installed on emuNAND. It will obviously install sucessfully but it wont run due to emuNAND.

emunand is when we boot into gw mode right?

When on settings the version is displayed with GW on the beginning, correct? Then yes, from that pictures you see that title manager and devmenu2x are on home screen in gw mode (which I always thought it was the emunand)

What I barely came to a conclusion is that when we use the game selector to supposedly run devmenu, it should be in .3ds, and this is the way to run it in sysnad, it would be that by any chance?

Because, as I said, and other users here also had the same problem, when we try to run devmenu.3ds from game selector (yes, the correct version from sdk tools) we get black screen!

No gateway mode doesn't necessarily mean emunand. Just chose a different them color for your sysnand/emunand so you can tell on which nand you are, then do what Kay|s7eR said.

As I said, I thought emunand was when we see the firmware version beginning with GW, in my case GW9.4.0-2.0J. And when in sysnand, it does not show the GW, so I see 9.1.0-20J.

When I boot into gw mode, title manager and devmenu2x icon appear on home screen. When I dont boot into gw mode, none of these 2 icons are on home screen.

Plus the fact that on new 3ds LL, when I go to settings to see the firmware version and I go back to home screen, it quits gw mode and goes to sysnand (none of these 2 icons are on home screen).

You need to boot into sysnand before mset downgrade will work. Boot Gateway menu while holding L so that you can see the selection menu. Then hold B. While holding B, press A. It will ask you if you want to boot into sysnand. (At this point you can let go of B) Press X.

It will boot into sysnand instead of emunand. Then you can install the mset downgrade. As for emunand, it you messed it up now. You'll need to downloaded latest system settings CIA with 3DNUS to restore it as you will no longer be able to configure NNID settings or if you own a n3DS, no longer be able to configure Super Stable 3D calibration or use Micro SD Management.

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way
